Still completely incapable of creating anything centrally from midfield. So one-dimensional in our play

Wellington Phoenix 1-0 Adelaide United
90min
4min added time.
Nice work from Clough, Goodwin just fails to make contact with the cross.

Wellington Phoenix 1-1 Adelaide United

United pouring forward.
Clough with a chance but he blast the ball into the keeper for a corner and it seems we have equalised from said corner!
Ben Halloran scores with a smart finish into the near corner!
Yippee!
Killed the party.
Toure goes down!?!

Same gameplay, same subs etc., I thought it was pretty poor as per the preseason.
squad depth is all kids on scholarships by the looks, not sure it will cut it over the season.
A draw was pretty disappointing against 10 .

Game over.
We did not deserve to lose but we did not do enough to win.
After the game is before the game ...
Good night!

I'd have taken a point before, so have to be happy with that from a goal down, especially with half a dozen out.
We just need to accumulate points in the first month, we get a good run in January and need to be hitting our straps then.
Clough is close, so close to being a very good player but so far has rarely taken his moment. He spoke in the offseason about needing games, hopefully it clicks soon.

This reminded me of our first game last season away to Perth. Totally dominated possession then but only came away with a point. We looked threatening throughout and our corner count of eighteen to one says it all. It would have been a completely different outcome if Hiroshi had been leading the attack.

Agreed. Possession looks good.
Defence still looks pretty solid (surprisingly, considering it’s still a kid and an NPL player. I keep waiting for them to drop their level, but they look solid.
Hiroshi is such an important player for us.
Goodwin missing was a double loss, with no Nestory meaning Clough out on the wing with less freedom to roam. He really is our only creative midfielder.
As above, I too would have taken a point before the game. I’m still excited about this season, despite how strong some of the other teams look.

Hiro missing made a huge difference. Blackwood deserves a spot in the squad but just doesn't have the presence to lead the line for 90'.This reminded me of our first game last season away to Perth. Front 4 wherever possible needs to be Goody and Halloran on the wings, Hiro up front with Clough in behind.
All I need is some tasty waves, a cool buzz, and I'm fine.
Re: Wellington Phoenix v Adelaide United Match Day Jamboree!!!©
It feels like another season where we don't have a creative midfielder and it's going to hurt us.
Clough seems to be more of a winger.
Blackwood is best deployed as a CF or second striker where he can work off Hiro.
Goody and Halloran are two of the best wingers in the comp but can't play 10.
Isa and Juande are solid DMs but are never going to score a goal from open play.
D'Arrigo seems to have hit his ceiling and I'm not sure exactly where he is best suited but it's not CAM.
I just feel our game plan comes completely undone when we don't have that 10 to link up defence and attack.
