Totally.Bernardo didn't have a great game. None of the "head down and run at defenders" wide players did. I think voluntarily removing Goodwin as a threat by playing him out of position was the bigger issue with subsequent changes though.
Melbourne City are a cut above other teams defensively. Over 2 legs they really gave us very few opportunities for a clear pass to an attacking player in a dangerous position because they were extremely disciplined in their positioning. We had very little option but to knock the ball back and start again. Wide threats nullified extremely well, especially the young & inexperienced players that don't quite have the smarts yet to do much other than just run at their man. (fwiw I think Brook & Bernardo are better than that characterisation, but they rarely had an outlet either)
