My God it was an awful game to watch at times. Not a great advert for the league with all the turnovers and errors.
But a nice smash and grab win over the cashed up plastic tards :D
Yeah my thoughts exactly.

All goals come from errors/accidents.

The best passage of play was Goody's offside goal.

Hopefully it's down to a short turnaround and an unfamiliar lineup.

Great to get the 3 points.

... and while I am on the subject .... let the criticism of CV from some quarters on this forum cease here and now. Carl completely outcoached Kisnorbo, who was shown up to be a 'one idea' gaffer. It was CV who made the changes, who rejigged the backline into a back 3 after half time, who made the substitutions, who rewarded commitment and hard work and who was not scared to try a different formation when his original plan wasn't working; largely due to mistakes made by the players, it must be said.

Carl Veart plays his limited hand extremely well, managing limited resources and insisting on relentless hard work from his players, as the only realistic way to make up for the club's lack of money. It's very much a Crystal Palace and even Milwall mindset and it means that every player is accountable for the amount of effort that he puts in on the pitch.

I also like how he makes Ross Aloisi his 'bad cop', who is the one yelling at the players when they execute badly (or not at all) and CV prefers to sit back to watch the bigger picture.

Maybe Patrick '1 plan' Kisnorbo could learn something from CV.
"Hang on, lads; I've got a great idea".

Gotta love a win in Melbourne however it happens.

Now, when we have played more games than anyone, how can it be we have three games on the road in a week?

hahaha
Support or criticism for coach is always conditional. Results are good now, and he's got his game management right.
But we're not playing great football and everything can change after a couple of bad results in a row.

Plus, we are 3rd but we've played more games than every other team.
Sydney are 1 point behind but 1 game in hand.
Wellington are 1 point behind, 2 games in hand.
Victory 3 points behind, 2 games in hand.
Macarthur 3 points behind, 3(!) games in hand.

Carl has deserved some of the criticism he's copped, he's deserved some of the plaudits, but let's not go overboard.
All I need is some tasty waves, a cool buzz, and I'm fine.

Agree.

We should have lost the game on Tuesday given our performance.

Carl is now a known quantity. We know his strengths and we know his weaknesses.

I still think he plays one-dimensional, however he does motivate and support the players we put out there to fight to the end.

I think his substitutions have improved dramatically this season. Given last year he would bring on 4 attackers when we were behind...

Yep, much as I would love to jump on the CV bandwagon and put two fingers up at the critics on here the fact is that we won thanks to a fluke goal and an absolute gift from Carl "am I still playing for Arsenal" Jenkinson.
To say that we did it due to Carl outcoaching his opposite number is a bit of a stretch to say the least.

But you can give me grit, determination and a never say die attitude over tactical genius any day :)

Given memories of many many unfair results from Melbourne trips sticking in my mind. I'll gladly take the ugliest of wins with deflected own goals from Melbourne trips. I think the real tests for Carl is ensuring a better home form and reducing the side's almost total reliance on Goody for goals, which in the last few weeks he's achieved. If Carl can see regular game time from Goody and Hiro for the rest of the season, while achieving a bit more stability from defense. AU will be a strong contender for the rest of the season.
Time to Djbate!
