That hurts.
Much improved on last week.
Should have been a draw.
Hiro needs to score that. Big reality check for him.
Clear penalty late on. Rugby tackled.

Missed penalties have cost us a few points already. Considering where we're probably going to end up it might be an issue...

That was one of the first VAR decisions that has legitimately confused me. Albeit one where the VAR itself seemingly made the correct decision.
Very unimpressed with Barr's game. He escaped scrutiny for his role in the first goal due to Lopez's lax effort. But he was consistently poorly positioned and constantly making poor decisions.

Our defence was the difference tonight, too much space and too many mistakes. Add in a missed pen and probably another ref didn’t give and a draw or even a win was about right. But when you have defensive lapses, they are costly.
We really need better LB and RB options and Tratt coming back in won’t solve a thing.
Brosque and Harper both saying it was a pen btw.

Clear penalty. The Sydney player had his arms around Hiroshi and prevented him from going for the ball. If you have any doubt, ask yourself would that have been paid as a free kick outside the penalty area? Of course it would have! Why do Sydney always seem to get the better of the refereeing decisions? How many times have they benefitted from dubious decisions by the referee over the years?

Clear second penalty not given even after VAR.
It’s as if VAR has decided that we’re playing as if it was pre-VAR days.
Should have scored the penalty we did get. The only mistake Hiro made, but it was a big one.
Barr showed us the gulf in class between a very good part-time experienced NPL defender and a very average professional experienced A-League defender. He let Kamsoba get onto his right foot instead of keeping him on his left for the first goal. He was ball watching and left his man completely free for what should have been Sydney’s second goal. And their actual second goal came down his side as well.
Mind you, he hasn’t had enough time to acclimatise to the level required for the A-League. Plus he must have been pinching himself when he ended up facing Le Fondre and Bobo, two of the most lethal finishers the A-League has seen.
We bring on Bernardo and Toure up front.
They bring on Le Fondre and Bobo.
Bluddy heck!!!
Thought we were worth a draw, and Hiro should have given us that.
Still … onwards and upwards. There’s always next week.

I think a few of you missed that the VAR made the (apparent) correct decision on the penalty. He called the referee over and the onfield ref decided that "I was in good position and missed an obvious penalty" was less good for the reputation than "This happened right in front of me and I had a special vantage point that the cameras couldn't see."

Well, from the stands that was good fun at the end. Heartbreaking but good fun.
Barr.....well....hmmmm....he can only improve.
Hiro!!!! You gotta score that one, lad!
Disallowed pen? Seriously? As Interloper says above, the ref saved his own arse rather than play by the rules. Can't wait to play the Canberra Raiders next week.

Meanwhile, the girls were brilliant! And their ref was ok too.

I missed the game due to work but Barr struggling doesn’t surprise me in the slightest. He got an opportunity at Bradford in League One a few years bsck and was way out of his depth then too.Clear second penalty not given even after VAR.

I think he’s someone who is probably too good for semi-pro football but not good enough for pro football.

I don't know if this is what the referee is actually looking at but these two horrendous angles were the only ones shown on TV while he was checking out the footage.

Carl Veart post match.
@mcjules ,the two views are a bit thin but I thought there was more than enough information presented to judge it correctly.
The ref did not have the guts to call it.

I didn't have high expectations from Barr. He's essentially a 3rd choice defender. His passing was too wayward and his positioning was pretty average.
But this was his first game in the A-League against one of the best teams in the league.
I still don't understand why Timo wasn't played but we should cut Barr some slack. He won't be a regular feature and he wasn't signed as one.

For 2 reasons, because timotheu is average and no team in the world plays 2 left sided centrebacks in defenceI didn't have high expectations from Barr. He's essentially a 3rd choice defender. His passing was too wayward and his positioning was pretty average.
