I took it as that he’s surprised a player of his ability has played so well and I agree. Kitto is direct and aggressive to a fault with the ball. Which is predictable and easy to deal with for a defender when he is playing on the wing in his usual position.
At left back, it's a change from the usual and there's often no opposition defender to stop him in the first place.
