Weird subs.
Unlucky Strain didn't capitalise on our 10 man dominance at the start of the 2nd half.

Adelaide United 1-1 WS Wanderers
Game over
Far out!
Ibini has the game goal on his foot and he shoots over!
United did well with 10 men.

disappointing draw. Very unambitious play from Adelaide in the last 15 minutes, they looked more dangerous 10v11 than 10v10

Should have got the W but as soon as you go down to 10 men the draw is a good result.

Thought Timotheou had his best game for us. Just one or two minor hiccups early on, after that very solid.
Thought 1-1 was a good result considering we were 10 men for most of the game. I was disappointed we didn’t push harder in the last 15 minutes, but when we did we left a 3 on 1 which WSW butchered, so maybe caution was the best policy after all.

I think that we were lucky to get the 1- 1. The Wallys should have nailed it at the very end and only their astounding ability to butcher easy chances saved us. D'Arrigo's red was justified - both yellows were appropriate; I think that he just forgot that he was already on a yellow when he brought down Duke. He'll learn from that.
We played better at 10 vs 11 than when they went down to 10 men too. We seem to play out of our skins when the odds are stacked against us. It speaks of the resilience built into the team culture by CV. Culture is the hardest thing to establish in a side. Almost anyone can take the coach's exams and discuss formations and tactics, but establishing a culture of resilience and a refusal to drop heads when the match turns against you are extremely difficult to instill.
I felt a little sorry for James Troisi last night. He obviously regrets leaving Adelaide. His heart is nowhere near Western Sydney. He should have accepted the reduced contract that he was offered and recognised that his career is in its end stage. It's been a long time since anyone mentioned him in connection with the Socceroos. The final curtain is drawing near, James.
Meanwhile, our frontline just gets better and better. Once both the Toures are fit, we will have the choice of both of them, Tomi Juric, Niyongabire and Yengi. With Goodwin/Kitto on the left flank and Strain/Halloran on the right, that is a truly terrifying prospect for any team to confront.
CV builds his teams from the backline forwards, but various longterm injuries, plus Troisi leaving at the start of the year, forced his hand. So the frontline is now largely sorted (current injuries notwithstanding) and the backline will be solid once Jacko returns. (It is close to impregnable when he is there). So now the last piece of the puzzle is the midfield and for next week at least, we'll be without D'Arrigo. The shape of the team is clear though - a 4-3-3 with a very strong backline, D'Arrigo and Mauk controlling the midfield and a really sharp frontline. It will be fascinating to see the whole side that CV has tried to create, on the park and firing.
I'm not sure whom we play next, but it doesn't really matter. We are good enough to beat any side, anywhere in the country. That self-belief is priceless and like the resilience, that is due to the head coach. It's time for us to all to be more than a little thankful for having CV, the hard man of Crystal Palace and Milwall, as our gaffer.
Good times ahead!

I thought the performance was very good and we were unfortunate to get the 3 points. Even when we were 10 v 11, we were bossing the game and their goal was completely against the run of play.

Those two through balls he played, first for Goodwin when his cross was blocked and then the long one for Mauk for the red card were incredible.Thought Timotheou had his best game for us. Just one or two minor hiccups early on, after that very solid.

Controversial opinion maybe, but I think if he is given a run of games he will show himself as our best centre back...
