You make another good point there, buzzwords. It does appear the club is more interested in politics, making social statements, promoting inclusiveness etc. All noble ventures, as long as you are doing it on the field.

I made a comment in the w-league a while back that the w-league squad appeared to have been better built and resourced than the mens squad. I stand by that and find it laughable that our only LB is an 18y.o. who looks like NPL would be about their level (no offence to Smith, good potential but not ready for 90 mins every week). This pisses me off too, Im not having a go at any our youngsters who all look to have potential, its just that they are being thrown to the wolves at the moment and clearly many are not ready for 90 mins as regular starters- but this is not unknown in the world of football, so WTF were our club thinking other than lets make 20/21 the cheapest squad ever.
Point of Order: Noah (or “Norm” as Foxsports call him) Smith is 20.

Wasn’t sure, thanks for correcting.
Irrespective of it, was it clever to go all in on a 20yo with basically zero experience at this level as the only specialised LB? To me it seems a massive gamble in a position that has been a problem for years.
I just don’t see how the stated mantra of looking local, interstate then foreign has been adhered to at AU when we don’t have a AM, midfield or LB at present. Unless Lopez can play all 3 positions simultaneously (whenever he might be fit of course) 🤣

Kitto should be the left back with Goodwin in front of him

This might be an unpopular opinion but I think Noah Smith is already a better left back than Kitto

Surely its time to blood some of our young centrebacks, we have neglected centreback for years. Elsey is error prone, Jakobsen is that plus injury prone
No offence but that is the last thing we should be doing right now. Timotheou will get games when one of Elsey or Jakobsen isn’t available while Abetew has been playing but I don’t think he’s A-League standard.

I think with all young squads there will certainly be games like this where we should be grinding out a draw but the game gets away from us. I don't think there is really any opportunity for the club to drastically rectify the issues were facing besides bringing in Goodwin and the mystery visa player (fingers crossed). The times we live in make luring players from almost anywhere far more expensive and challenging. So personally I think the only option the club has is to stick to it's course and hope that enough of the kids build on the experience. Bruce, Carl and the owners all seem to be invested in their direction so I can't see them throwing to toys out the pram at this stage.

If we're looking for someone to blame around all this season we've always got old mate Troisi. Lets all presume he was going to score AND set up 10+ goals this season and now he robbed us of that, so we're in this position. Surely that's a better option that pointing fingers at the kids (and Carl) still learning their trade?

Veart's rapidly falling into the same pattern as the last 5 or so (bar Amor) Adelaide managers. They start out promising with a single unique tactic/philosophy* that gets surprisingly good results, but they immediately go into deep denial and suffer heavy losses the moment an opposition team takes note of said tactic and prepares their team against Adelaide accordingly.

*to be fair to Veart, he seems to have a grand total of two: "unbalanced 4-4-2 with roughly the best XI on the pitch" + "balanced 4-5-1 with good players sitting on the bench."
