Took my girls along to the game. Lots of fun. Very little football watched!

Good one Stuckey!

By they way they are talking about the team for all the right reasons.
When Dylan Holmes was announced as captain of Adelaide United’s W-League team ahead of the 2020-21 season, the club posted two photos on their social media channels to mark the occasion.

The first was of a young Holmes, dressed in an Adelaide jersey and standing on a football at a club fan day in 2007. The second photo was of an older Holmes, dressed in Adelaide’s jersey and standing on a football – the leader of that same club 13 years later.

Great story in The Guardian. Dylan Holmes is a true leader. At dire risk of jinxing them, this year's edition of the Lady Reds really is good enough to go all the way. Tomorrow's match with a wobbly Sadney will be fascinating.

I wouldn't say that sitting top of the league ... losing their first game ... to the team sitting second who are now the form team in the league ... was exactly wobbling.

I hope the Lady Reds can get a result, but on paper Sydney are clear favourites. Setting aside Sydney's last result, in their first 6 games they scored 15 and conceded 1. Meanwhile we've scored 12 and conceded 10.

Like I said - Sadney were wobbly. We had much the better of the first half until they scored and then were all over them after we made it 2 - 1, around the 64th minute mark. The Lady Reds came home with a wet sail and could have - and probably should have - equalised, with two strong chances in the final 10 minutes.

If ever there was a gallant defeat, this was it.

Huge chance to equalise late in the game ...

For all her experience and skill, Rojas always seems to be a metre off the pace, get tackled when she should have passed the ball and misses the chances she gets. Not sure why they continue to persist with her as the one-out striker when she'd be better suited to being a 10. Just too slow against most defences. Amazing foot skills and a killer pass - when she passes.

The girls have done it again - 2 - 1 away win in Newcastle, which takes us third. Best season ever for the Lady Reds!

The club has just announced that our captain, Dylan Holmes, has just been signed to one of the top clubs in the Swedish top flight and will leave pretty well immediately. It's very sad to see her go - but well done to her on being noticed and being snapped up by a top European club. Holmes is a future Matilda - and potentially a future Matildas captain.

Addendum to my last - she will play for BK Hachen and her final match for AUFC is this Saturday, before flying out for the start of the Swedish women's season. So the last chance to see Dylan play live is this weekend ....

Great for Dylan however it is going to weaken our squad somewhat.
