What a poor, disappointing result. Imagine if we had a competent striker, just imagine.

Brisbane Roar 2-1 Adelaide United
Tilt, game over.
We did take too long to wake up in the second half.
But we also saw a very confident debut from another Toure brother.

More a disappointing display than result. So lethargic going forward. A sharp, fit striker would be nice. But the amount of chances created wasn't enough.

Game could have gone either way, we played some good stuff but just toothless upfront.
I've waited a long time to see McGree and Mauk together but McGree had his worst game for some time.

McGree was well marshalled tonight. Barely got on the ball and when he did they shut him down well.
Brisbane play a very dull, defensive strategy akin to Popa's teams over the years which is dire to watch but I think will get them results long term. It's good play by Fowler and dare I say it he's turning them around.
As for us, we just lack a bit of consistency with our players. Mauk slotted in pretty seamlessly but just wasn't on the same wavelength as the others which is expected.
Others were played out of position: Mile a wingback in a back 5. Opseth starting for only the second time since November and Boland (although tidy when he came on) has been out for basically the entire season. Chemistry just wasn't there.
Was great to see Toure in the last 10 minutes. Exciting bursts of power and speed. Challenge is to maintain it, like his older brother has been battling to do.
Disappointing second goal we conceded. I actually think it was offside as mentioned above, but after it was a handball to the attacker which is what Jakobsen was screaming for. VAR can't interject for the goal because it's deemed a stop in play at the corner and my understanding is it can't look back further than the last stop in play. Tough to swallow because in tight games like this, those decisions going against you ultimately cost you the game.
On to next week!

Love to sacrifice all attacking threat for a more solid defence and then have the defence fail completely anyway.

Start Toure at #9 next week. This is not a kneejerk opinion.

Yep. In 10 minutes he looked far more dangerous than opseth. Just put the ball at his feet and see what happens. Nothing to lose.Start Toure at #9 next week. This is not a kneejerk opinion.

Dominated the game for 75 minutes and lose, that's Adelaide United in a nutshell.
Think we need to cut Opseth some slack, each of the few Scandinavians who've come here struggled early with fitness and form, even a guy like Toivenen and was a semi regular international.
I reckon we spent too much time worrying about them and not enough about us.
Would love to know what they feed those Toure kids, absolute jets the both of them.

The lack of cutting edge to our play strikes again.
+ aren't strikers meant to play that position because they have composure to finish chances when in good positions? At AU, it seems ours have zero composure unless they are named Toure.
Opseth looks good at times and then absolutely unco, not really doing much as an import more than halfway through the season.
Thought our 2nd half was lacking in intensity and therefore no complaints on the loss, oh and sign Hallorran FFS

Agreed, he's not far away from a Socceroos spot IMO.
Crucial signing.

Opseth looking more and more like an Adelaide special - striker with good pedigree, obviously quality but who just can't seem to bring it on match day.
He seems to have a strong attitude so hopefully it will come together with him sooner rather than later.
We're almost two thirds of the way through the season, when you sign a proven 30 year old you want him to hit the ground running.Think we need to cut Opseth some slack, each of the few Scandinavians who've come here struggled early with fitness and form, even a guy like Toivenen and was a semi regular international.

All I need is some tasty waves, a cool buzz, and I'm fine.

We saw some good with Absalonsen late in his season, we just need him to stay on the park.
But of course if he doesn't improve then I'd look elsewhere next season

Great goal from Halloran but ...
Where did they get this stupid idea that Ben Halloran is looking to leave?
I suspect some malaka is making all this up.
