Great article. Bruce is gonna be one of the most important figures in Australian football I think (unless his career takes him beyond the game).
All I need is some tasty waves, a cool buzz, and I'm fine.

Finally an article about AU in the Guardian and an excellent one at that.

AU has a sharper profile now.
The club has taken a massive step towards a great future.

*BUMP*

Unpopular opinion....... Bruce hasn't had a great year.

If you take the opinion, as I do, that DArrigo is one of the best young DMs produced in recent memory then two of our strongest positions on the park at the start of year were RB and CM.

So why sign the two Spaniards we have this year?

We have Strain and Marrone to cover RB with Abetew as backup.
We have DArrigo at DM, Mauk at CM and yet the two imports are RB/DCM.

Credit where due on Goodwin and to some extent Juric. But we've been crying out for a #10, creative AM for years.

For mine, the limited funds we do have for foreigners have been put in the wrong positions on the park.

Lopez and Juande are good footballer but not what we need.

I would say that the recruitment of Lopez was indirectly a result of the last minute loss of Troisi before the start of the season. I expect they looked around for a replacement number ten, couldn’t find one, and then Javi came up.

That’s probably when the decision was made to push D’Arrigo further forward and try to develop him as an attacking mid, something that clearly hasn’t worked. Not yet anyway. But that would have been a decision made by the coaching staff and not something you could lay at Bruce's door. The fact that Lopez provided cover at both full back positions was an added bonus within a relatively small squad, with only a make shift (Kitto) and a rookie (Smith) at LB.

To be fair I thought Juande made a positive impact when he came in. Again, we probably looked around for a 10 but they're obviously hard to come by, and the midfield was lacking a foot on the ball, dictate play type and I think Juande fits the bill there. Even if it's from a deeper position than most would like to see.

You failed to mention in your post the two young keepers that both look like they could be stars of the future, and of course the find of the season - Josh Cavallo.

On the other side of the ledger, Timotheou has for the most part been a disappointment despite showing some glimpses of class. But I would argue that on the whole the recruitment has been pretty good this season.
