AUFC vs Wellington

So we welcome Wellington to Coopers this week. Funnily enough, this is one team that I did not want us to face this week; not because we won't beat them, because we will, but I have a surprising soft spot for Welly and the last thing that they need is to be slaughtered by us. We are in terrifyingly good form at the moment and Wellington has only just won their first match.

They are back in their usual position, propping up every other team on the table and I wish instead that we could, say, have Sadney or the East Adelaide Second XI this week. It would be really good to match ourselves against the two other best clubs in the land, rather than the one that always seems on the verge of having to justify its continued presence in the league.

I'm sorry if that sounds arrogant or presumptive; I don't want it to, but I just can't see Welly even taking a goal off us this week. I would much rather that Welly played someone else this week, jagged a win and leapt past the filth, which if they lose as well would have made the filth absolute, stone cold motherless last. Oh well; we can only play the teams that the FFA send, but I wish that Welly could get their season started against a different side and that we could continue our relentless, irresistible brand of total Dutch excellence.

It's a strange position to be in - pitying the teams that have to meet us at Coopers. Have I jinxed us already ....??

You've not seen their Mexican striker ? He looks the goods.

He is very good, yes ... but I'm confident that our midfield can cut off his service.

We are a club that has demonstrated we are ones to watch for more trophies.

However at this stage its nothing more than a good streak of form in a tight league like this. We have been fantastic but we need to prove we can be consistently good

It's a banana-skin game and they'll even be dressing the part.

The key generally in the HAL is injuries IMO. Keep the key players in your squad fit and you'll find yourself in the finals.

Welly haven't got the worst record at Coopers. Even when they have lost they haven't generally been miles of getting something from the game.
