19/20 Predictions

Postby sub007 Thu Oct 03, 2019 11:55 pm

With the season starting in a season or two, hit us with your predictions.

Premiers: Perth - Kept most of the squad from last season and look very formidable.
Champions: Perth
Wooden Spooners: Brisbane - The squad that Fowler has assembled is horrendous. Most of their visa players have embarrassing CV's, especially Amadi-Holloway and most of their Australian players are below average as well.
Golden Boot: Maclaren - Will dominate once again and has scored 6 goals in the cup.
Johnny Warren medallist: Schwegler - Has an outstanding CV and is a coup for WSW and the league.
Young footballer of the year: Deng - Already in the Socceroos setup. An obvious choice.
AU's Golden Boot: Opseth - Has looked good so far and looks to be first choice.
AUFC club champion: Halloran - I think we'll see a much improved Halloran now that he'll play on the wing every week.
AUFC young footballer: McGree - Obvious choice
Most scapegoated AUFC player: Lia. Cops a lot of criticism, yet I don't remember him ever playing a bad game.
Best new signing (HAL) : Schwegler
Best new signing (AUFC): Opseth - I think he'll just edge McGree. Who knows how Maria will go.
Biggest flop: Berisha - Past it.
Manager of the season: Popovic - Outstanding manager and I can see him going overseas soon.
First manager sacked: Babbel - Has a good squad but I don't think he'll get the best out of them.

Predicted table:
Perth
Sydney
Victory
City
Western United
Adelaide
Wellington
Wanderers
Mariners
Jets
Roar

I'm sure it's going to get interesting in here.

I agree with you on Lia.

Here is an easy one.

AU to win the FFA Cup for a record 3 times in front of a sold out Hindmarsh.
I wonder if we get to keep the trophy?

Agree re: Lia, as I said elsewhere he's a our new Cameron Watson.

HAL Young Player - Samuel Silvera; for a kid who has yet to play a minute of A-League he looked very good.

I predict that Silvera will be playing for one of the Sydney or Melbourne teams within the next 2 years.

I hope not. Talk of our seeking a DM reminded me of Jacob Melling who took the great leap sideways into the Melbourne City vortex.

Perth
Sydney
The filth
AUFC
Western Sydney Blunderers
City (just - and to go out of the finals in the first week, as they always do)

Wellington (always just 5% off the pace, alas)
Newcastle Jest
Western United
CCM
Brisbane

McLaren for the golden boot.
Robby Fowler to be sacked just before Rd 27.
The Blunderers to stick with Markus Babbel, because the WSW hierarchy finally realise that the problem is not the coach, but the entire team.
We go deeply into the finals but go out in an away semi-final.
SA Govt finally announces the expansion of Hindmarsh to a 22,000 capacity, after Australia is awarded the 2023 WWC.
Hindmarsh to host England at the 2023 WWC, due to our vast British expatriate community.
"Hang on, lads; I've got a great idea".

Im predicting a season that largely mirrors Gombaus first campaign.

A rough start to the season
Gertjan will be entertaining if not controversial
We will make some huge improvements 8 weeks in and be in the mix at the end of the season.
Our youth will surprise us
Ppl who slap the label of truth on the 1st thing they hear, do it out of ignorance, convenience or cant be bothered picking through a thin layer of falsehood to find the real truth, or possibly even another lie

I feel this season will be challenging.
So many points of controversy:
- no CDM
- Chinese CB
- Troisi signing

If things go well, it will be all okay.
If things go poorly, Piet and co will need to seek refuge from the pitchforks.

I agree that it will be a rough start but:
- Should sneak into finals (6th)
- Should win the FFA Cup at home

Others:
- McLaren / Fornaroli golden boot
- SFC premiers
- SFC / MV final
- Spoon - Welly
- Top AU scorer - McGree

Just to add to your list of controversy. If things go well it will be fine, if not the Kurz non-extension will come up again- Not within our little community but on Facebook I can see the pitchforks being dusted off.

Agree that winning the FFA cup will go a long way in Piet/Verbeek's favor if we can get it done.

How could I forget!
The coach who won the FFA Cup and had us penalties away from a GF... The bar has been set high!
