Great result.

They're away to Newcaste, we're at home to WSW, will back us to extend the lead.

Probably not the best team but also should have won it

Prob should be content with a point but Melbourne city are terrible and I’m struggling to not be underwhelmed after such a poor second half.

All I really want at this point is to understand this strategy of running all our play through the full backs and never having another player in position to be a viable passing option for them

Probably would have taken that result pre-game. Frustrating to see City score from a mistake.
Interesting that both high profile new strikers had little effect on the game.

Their 2 newbies looked quality whereas Jordy lacked any touch when in space.

Theres a reason we are lineball on the ladder, we aren't any better......particularly our habit of gifting goals.

Jakobsen was immense.

If Nikola is out for a while i rekon Armiento is actually ahead of Kitto.
Start Armiento, sub in Brook.

Kitto needs to show something.

He needs a little variety to go with the ol’ barrel forward in a straight line tactic

Dont forget the inevitable hack shot or dribble out of bounds.

Armiento needs to be given more time.

I didn't think Kitto was terrible when he came on.

I'd definitely put Strain to RW and Marrone to RB rather than start Kitto though.

Agree.

It's the "first touch" or lack of and that afflicts 90% of Australian players.

I think we'll see Marrone benched for a lot of the remainder of the season in case one of the CBs go down. Sucks to be him but probably wise given our situation.

Thomassen looked good in his build up play but consistently got his feet tangled when he needed a good first touch to have a shot on goal.

You can see he had quality in his build up so it may have just been nerves and trying too hard on debut.

If i remember correct cavusavic had a similar debut

I would love to know how many goals we have conceded this season due to passing around in our own penalty box or defensive 1/3.

Genuine question, why do we persist with it when City were obviously pressing high on our defence and you could see a dangerous turnover was coming from a mile away? It happens regularly.

It's my understanding that by drawing their forwards out we create space in behind to play through but we constantly get caught with Izzo on the ball losing it/kicking it out of bounds or one of our full backs are pressed hard up against the corner flag with nowhere to go. Is there a point where we need to change it up so as not to be so predictable?

I'm not suggesting we lump it forward every time we get it but we let so many teams back into games from these errors that could be prevented.

I'd also argue that as much as I do love Izzo, his foot skills under pressure are not great. Certainly not up the standard of Galekovic and even he made some classic mistakes trying to play out from the back as we typically do.

I agree I thought he showed enough with his build up play and ability to hold onto the ball or draw a foul to be optimistic.

He did waste some promising moves with poor first touches though, hopefully he finds his feet and this was just down to nerves or a lack of familiarity.

Either way, it's still better than having Baba who never even plays...what's actually happened to him, is he still here?
