Preview: AUFC vs Nix 05/01/2019
5:05pm kick off. Hopefully we miss the high temperatures the day before.
I don't have any stats but I feel like Wellington have a very good record at Hindmarsh of late.
I hope Kurz is looking at altering the striker role.
I wonder if RedTide is on to something with the discussion around penalties?
When is the last time someone scored a hat trick for AU?!

I'd like to see something like .....
------------------------Izzo------------------------
Marrone----Regan---Jakobsen---Galloway
-----------------Isaias----Lia----------------------
-----------------------Kitto-------------------------
Halloran------Blackwood--------Goodwin
Richards / Strain / Elsey / Mileusnic / Ilso
Back to having a recognised #9 and wingers playing in their natural positions please.
Very tough call to drop Konstandopoulos altogether though ... maybe keep Elsey out for another week.
Phoenix are doing very well - this will be a tough assignment given our struggles at home. So long as we stay solid at the back I think we should be able to break them down though

Seems its going to be 26 at this stage, so should be perfect conditions for the game.
As for hattricks, I believe it was Cirio vs Victory?
And no hattricks for any team this season from what I could tell

They dont play well here, but they're playing very well at the moment.
Hope George gets a start, we need him to bag a couple goals before the apparent reinforcements arrive.

Will be a tough game but one we must win.
Hopefully Georgie starts and Reegs keeps his place. I assume Strain keeps his spot as well
I'd like to see:
Izzo
Strain Regan Jakobsen Galloway
Isaias Lia
Halloran Ilso Goodwin
Blackwood
Margush, Elsey, N Konstandopoulos, Mileusnic, Kitto
Marrone stiff to miss out

Mileusnic came off early against Newy. Does he have an injury?

Don't think so. Apparently half the team was completely buggered during the second half and from memory, he was one of those players.Mileusnic came off early against Newy. Does he have an injury?

OK good. He went down during the game with what looked like cramp. He came off not long after that. It would be so frustrating to see him pick up an injury after finally getting decent game time and his form has improved significantly.Don't think so. They mentioned during the game that one of the players (I forget who, maybe Regan) came over to the bench to tell them that half of them were done physically (although in much more colourful terms), with Mileusnic being one of those.
So yeah hopefully just the short turn around in very hot weather for both. Guess we will find out more when squads are named.

Nearly right Ben ... it was Michael Jakobsen who came over to the bench midway through the second half and said that "the back four are all fudged" due to the heat - although the last word may be slightly misquoted. They mentioned during the game that one of the players (I forget who, maybe Regan) came over to the bench to tell them that half of them were done physically (although in much more colourful terms), with Mileusnic being one of those.

It was a real toss up as to who would be substituted first and thankfully Marco got it exactly right. You could tell from the final 10 minutes of the match that both teams were out on their feet, but our back four could have been hospitalised, such was their exhaustion. A massive well done to all of them.
As to Saturday evening - this is the first match all season which I am distinctly uneasy about. Welly haven't won at Coopers for their last NINE matches and that is the sort of record that becomes likelier to be broken the longer that it goes on. That said, Welly have a worse record against us than any other team in the league, so maybe we can stretch their losing (or not winning) streak at Coopers for one more match.
I just don't know though and have very little confidence for this one, despite being one of life's eternal optimists. Maybe the (lack of) penalties imbalance will once again start tipping back towards us? Having now gained one for the season, maybe we will jag two penalties in two matches?
Maybe it's time to start sacrificing goats to various pagan gods.

Wellington have just signed a big striker who looks to be pretty dangerous (see, it is possible to use the transfer window) ... and he's a chance of making the squad on Saturday night.

Also, for all the talk of how good Wellington suddenly look under Rudan, they're in exactly the same spot as us on the table...
Adelaide United
10 4 3 3 14 13 1 15
Wellington Phoenix
10 4 3 3 14 13 1 15

I’d imagine some team management is in order this week considering how cooked some players were and that we have another came on Wednesday against victory.
Elsey to come in and rest Regan or Jakobsen with kitto to start ahead of Mileusnic to keep him fresh against the tards.

Its blackwoods job to put forward his claim that we do not need a new striker , that the missing piece of the puzzle was just recovering from a shoulder injury.
He showed promise early this season lets hope he puts his name up in lights and Halloran can finally play his preferred position and be a bit more greedy.
