AUFC played a closed door friendly against South Adelaide on Friday night. Adelaide won 7-0.

https://www.facebook.com/adelaideunited ... 888750019/

And yes, that is Papa Babacar Diawara playing in the second half, your eyes are not playing tricks on you!

For those who can't see the video-

-23' Craig Goodwin (left foot strike from top of the box after cutting in from the RW, quality goal)
-30' AP (scored with his feet after scramble in the box from a corner)
-45' Ken Ilso (breaks through the defence to receive a cross, brings it down on his chest and volleys it into the net)
-64' Taylor Regan (headed goal from a direct corner)
-83' Ryan Kitto (gets on the end of cross as he's moving towards the goal, brings the ball down in his stride and pokes it home)
-86' Ryan Strain (breaks the offside trap, keeper comes and Strain chips/volleys the ball over the keeper into an empty net, looked to be offside)
-88' Ryan Strain (fast and low cross put across the goals and he taps in at the back post)
I know it's only against South, but the fact we are scoring from crosses is very encouraging

I know it's only NPL teams but we look like we are going to be very entertaining this season.

Thanks for the link bp.
Stamatelopoulos was in all the right places to knock them in again.
I wonder if he can translate that into A-league goals this season.

Yeah wouldn't it be great if Stamatelopoulos became the biggest name in Australian football 😊
And we see the start of that progress this season.

0-0 draw with Melbourne city today in a closed doors friendly. Not sure of squad lists.

Check out @MelbourneCity’s Tweet: https://twitter.com/MelbourneCity/statu ... 09440?s=09

They made a short video of their trip but no highlights. Wasn't even mentioned by AUFC.

AUFC gave a write up today of yesterday's friendly,

Sounds like we played well and had the better of the chances. Halloran played in the second half.

Thanks for that, bp, it is heartening to hear that Elsey and Jakobsen are gelling.

Its great that the full squad have basically a couple of months to work each ither out and fight for a spot in the 11.

Im starting to wonder if we suddenly have a depth of striking options. Obviously baba has a great cv and needs to remain fit. AP have been absolutely ripping it up and blackwood is also at the age where we should see him grow into his role.

Theres also the option of ilso up front and putting one of halloran, konsta or Lia in the first midfield.

Very excited for this season!!

It would be close to the best depth we've ever had. A little light with only 3 CBs but everywhere else has really good cover.

I think the only issue I see which everyone else is mentioning too.
Baba if we can get a solid run of games out of him I feel the club goes from top 4 material to top 2.
I believe AU are still very strong without him but I feel he would be the cherry on top of a very strong side.

Is there any mention on whether he featured in the Melb City game?

No mention in the AUFC write up and I couldn't see him in Melbourne City's twitter video. He may have played a part but I'm pretty sure AP started.

If AP is starting ahead of Baba he is either:

- still unfit which has been his story for 3 seasons now, or:
- Kurz rates a teenager more than him.

Either way I don't have a good feeling about him featuring much this season.

I don't think he is injured, I think he is being nursed to match fitness to avoid a season like the last one. We'll know more when we see the team sheet for the cup game this week I guess.
