Good confidence boost to come from behind, win away and score 3 goals.
Although we conceded 2 pens and 2 goals, I think they were fixable errors, Izzo got the first one all wrong and Carrusca left unmarked in the box. Individual errors, not total breakdowns of the entire defense.
I said it before this game and I'll say it again, Gulum is not worth his wage. He doesn't really offer anything above Reagan IMO. Elsey needs to be locked down ASAP, it'd be a disaster to lose him for free, especially to another HAL club.

Missed this one due to being out in rural Japan; as you do. I love the fact I know we've done well by the number of pages the Jamboree has generated

Unfortunately I think he was dragged at HT to avoid getting a second yellow and missing next week which means Kurz wants him over Regan at CB.

Great analysis. I'm always apprehensive when Gulum starts; he is just too 'Turkish' (read: dangerous) in his tackles. I'm surprised he hasn't been sent off more often. Regan brings the same intensity, but without risking yellow and red cards.Good confidence boost to come from behind, win away and score 3 goals.

Gulum has the quality skills, but he is another Boogard - just too damn likely to get himself sent off.

I think that's one area where Gulum is IMO leaps and bounds better than most HAL level CB. He is always so close to the line as far as dangerous tackles etc. But more often than not he times them extremely well or provides a level of physicality on an attacker which creates a level of doubt in their minds. Elsey is another who is excellent at this Regan can at times but I wouldn't say he does it consistently.
I think having the ability to be physical to a point that doesn't get you in serious trouble is a massively valuable skill to possess, and would take huge amounts of work and belief in your ability to carry out. Obviously we'd all love a brick wall defence that nullifies attacks safely but that requires a massive team effort which you generally only see in the very top teams in a league. AU isn't take sort of club sadly. The second they become that, a far richer club would come along and take the main reason the defence is so stingy.
So being physical and clever enough to get under the opposition's skin is the next best option.
If Gulum leaves his Chinese club, I'm certain the list of club's willing to throw far more money than AU can afford will be long.
But I'm not too worried about that if AU are able to keep Elsey who is soon becoming one of the best CBs in the HAL.
