New owners?

Code: Select all

THE sale of Adelaide United to Chinese investors is tipped to take a major step closer to being finalised this week.

Any word on who these people are?

Probably the same group if investors as before

Isnt it funny how the media go on about port playing a match in china and how it will open opportunities. Meanwhile there is another adelaide club that often plays immensely high profile chinese clubs with some world class players yet can barely get sponsorship.

Tbh honest, adelaide is a football city with a long proud history in the game, the city and league really do need a strong aufc with highly ambitious owners.

Imo this would explain the complete lack if investment in players since we won the grandfinal , rumours have been circulating since then.

I wonder if they came back to us after expansion fell over elsewhere.

I can certainly see why our club would appeal to the Chinese. There's a big influence here in business and education already, and we as a club have plenty of growth opportunities. Selling a club who wears Red to the Chinese is also easier.

Hopefully they can help redevelop Hindmarsh as well as the on field side of the club.

As long as they are

1) passionate football supporters
2) provide adequate funding
3) can afford some good players and even some marquee's

I suppose it will give new meaning to the word RED ARMY

I think the LEDMan guy has been good for Newcastle Jets. Has been positive without spending ridiculous sums of money. I'd be happy enough with that model.

There really isnt enough information on what the deal is at the moment or who these people are.

I would hope that at least half the club will still be owned by SA people. Dont want Chinese investors coming in and changing everthing to suit them.

I welcome the money, but a 50/50 split or close to, would be nice.

Well yeah. It could go one of two ways. We don't want these guys to turn out like the Bakries did for Brisbane.
All I need is some tasty waves, a cool buzz, and I'm fine.

I believe the group is Landbridge, who own the Port of Darwin among other assets.

Its a worry when our ports are used as security for loans.

China has a history of making loans to countries that are unlikely to pay up and exchange the debt for 100 year leases on ports and access to vital mines etc.

Im all for foreign investment, but some level of protectionism is also prudent
