2018 NPL

Postby blahblah Fri Feb 23, 2018 2:08 pm

The season kicked off last weekend and we went down 2-1 away to Sturt. Armiento scored from the spot near the end of the match.

This coming Sunday we host Comets.

An odd one from the weekend, Adelaide City defeated South Adelaide 10-0. Ouch.

A brace from Pacifique Niyongabire gets the lads their first win of the season 2-0 v Comets.

I'm interested reading what I can on the new player Jared Clark. I think last season he was playing in Serbia with FK Vojvodina.

I also find it very interesting that Ochieng is still able to feature with the NPL side. I was under the impression that once a player plays (I think) 10 HAL games they weren't allowed to player with the NPL side any more. Obviously if that rule existed, it no longer does. Which is great news. The fringe HAL kids need to be able to drop down to NPL level.

I cannot help but wonder if Pacifique pulled off one of his trademark celebrations.

That was last year wasnt it??

Speaking of one sided rules, when can United have junior teams included in the Junior NPL struture (U9s U13s U18s etc...)

Probably when they stop threatening legal action against the FFSA!

Funny enough there is now a story about it...http://www.adelaidenow.com.au/sport/foo ... d06222dccf

Blocked by pay wall, however basically GG says FFSA have blocked United fielding junior/youth teams. Whereas FFSA say there has been no such application from United. Next season we will have an U18 team.

We need juniors from U9 at least IMO. Give them top coaching from a young age, only way to produce world class players on a consistent basis.

From a recruitment point of view I'm not hugely worried if AU have a junior set up I can't really see AU getting a massively better youth set up and running soon over what is already on offer in SA. But obviously from a financial point of view it's something the club would profit from pretty significantly.

It looked like hell of a game on the weekend against Metro Stars. We were down a man (red to Wilson at '42) and 2 goals at half time and fought back only to eventually lose 4:3 in the 5th minute of added time. Yet another brace from Pacifique.

Great effort from the lads.

Not just that. We don't qualify for the AFC Club licence to compete in the ACL without a junior set-up.

That would be quite the s&*tstorm! AU blocked from the ACL because they don't have a youth set up.
Griff would have a field day on the FFSA then!

1:3 loss to Adelaide City on the weekend, Brook chiming in with a goal on the 80' minute mark. I see Anthony Costa & Evan Kostopolous scored against us.

It is one of the interesting quirks where many of the best players in the SANPL spent time in AUFC's ranks in one form or another. Hence when it comes to the NPL we are strengthening the competition which makes it tougher for our development players and hence makes it a better development league.

We just need to make sure the new kids are one step ahead of the older ones who have moved on. A never-ending ladder, as it should be.

Obviously those players aren't who they are purely because of AU. But AU had a part to play in their development. I hope the rival clubs do come to understand that value AU offer the NPL and begin to loosen the controls held on the club within the comp. Obviously winning comps would be great. But enabling playing groups to be kept together for longer periods within the calendar year as well as for coming seasons would be of huge benefit to those squads development.
