How are we going to score goals?

How are we going to score goals?

Baba is not playing, will he be back for the next game?
Blackwood is going to be playing for the Olyroos and he has scored 3 goals in 4 games.

If Baba does not return then the closest thing to an available striker in the squad is Apostolos Stamatelopolous. Surely he is not going to start up front.

So who can we play up front and how do we play to help them score goals?

Good question.
I'm looking forward to seeing how this dilemma plays out.

It'll be Mileusnic, which doesn't fill me with confidence. 😞

Playing a game plan based around putting in crosses and Miluesnic winning headers in the box to score goals is not going to work, he is simply not good enough in the air. It would be almost as stupid as playing Cirio as a lone striker like happened last year.

If we are going to play the same style, then we need a player who can win headers in the box. So, as crazy as it might seem, Jordan Elsey is the best option in the squad. We would also need to ensure our best crossers (of a very poor bunch) are used in a way to get them on the ball out wide as often as possible. To me those players are Strain, Absalonsen and a distant third, Garuccio. Garuccio can put in a very good cross but it does not happen very often.

I was hoping that when Regan came on last night, Kurz would throw him up front for some physical presence and to get a head on some of those crosses.

Elsey is not a particularly good header of the ball IMO, just gets his head in the way and let's it bounce off in the right general direction.

Preferably by putting the ball in the back of the net.

I hear Owen Goal is still available.

He's already gone to MC but he's not getting any game time.

We will get him back for free and see him off to europe mid season with a transfer fee

what we need more than anything is a seriously good no10. Baba and Blackwood will score enough goals imo if we had someone in the AM mid role that was as good as any in the league. We have no penetration through the middle of the pitch atm.

Worried about nothing? Three goals against Perth says we can score enough. Spreading the goals around the team is good too.

Stamatelopoulos has just put his hand up. It will be interesting to see if he gets a start next week given Baba is looking injured and Blackwood in China. Starting against Sydney could be bit of an ask, but then again I watched an 18 year old tear apart Arsenal the other day.
