Bruce come home!

Mate we need you.
I wonder if he left on good terms? Does anyone leave Adelaide on good terms?

Can Baba and Bruce play in the same XI? Has Baba played RW much?

Edit- unless we can offload Baba too and pickup Djite and Burns lol

Im not sure why everyone wants bruce back to replace baba.

Im a huge fan of bruce, however people forget his form coincided with his wingers and midfield hitting form allowing him to receive the ball and dish it off without 4 defenders around him.

This is exactly babas issue ( although he us not in good form)

Once absalonsen is back in full stride defenders will have more than just baba on their mind, it will also take some heat off milesunic and allow him to play his game.

Replacing baba with bruce will see exactly the same issue only worse as baba is a far more credentialed striker then bruce.

I dont believe a players form happens in a vacuum

You're right that the midfielders and wingers will also need to lift, and that's where I see Mileusnic as a weak link. Consistently inconsistent. With Absalonsen and Kitto running the wings, I'd be interested to see if that helps Baba out a bit.

One of the reasons I want Bruce back is to put Baba on notice. At the moment his personal form and the form of the team may not be the only issues; it could be attitude and complacency due to a lack of pressure to maintain his spot. All due respect to the kid but Blackwood isn't doing anything to convince anyone he's worth starting over Baba.

I actually think we need to have a bit of patience with the team.

Although early on we maintained the same 4-3-3 as in years gone by, it’s pretty clear now Kurz has transitioned us to a 4-4-2 with a flat centre midfield (Isa, Adlung) with left and right mids (Kitto, Mileusnic) and two forwards (Baba, Matmour).

The front third is not clicking but this doesn’t happen overnight, particularly with this structural change.

We’ve also had a high turnover of players and early season injuries have really disrupted our progress.

The league is not easy. MV are struggling and so too WSW who I thought both had quality teams on paper.

The early season schedule and difficult FFA Cup games have also placed extra pressure on a thin squad.

After all this, we are still top 4 and made the FFA Cup Final.

Whilst there is some cause for concern with our finishing, we are creating a bucketload of chances and remaining pretty tidy at the back.

With Johan coming back and personnel changes likely with Matmour’s departure, I am pretty happy with how we are positioned.

We play a 442 when defending and matmour drops back during transition and we attack with a 4/5/1 - 4/3/3 generally.

Im not sure Kurz is trying to convert us to any specific formation

I think it was a happy parting.

We could have 3 strikers on our books all contending for the league golden boot and I'd still want Bruce back. :blowkiss:

He'd definitely offer us something IMO.

But why did Bruce leave a successful team for just one season?

To challenge himself overseas one last time with a massive pay rise to set himself up for the future.

Plus his team got relegated to Div 2 at the end of last season I believe.

I think Bruce had left on good terms as he’s been proudly supporting AU and the boys whilst he’s been in Korea.

Overseas opportunity opened up and he took it. I don’t begrudge him for that at all.

I think it was actually 1.5 or 2 seasons, their season and ours overlap but are run at different times of the year.

He got an offer too good to refuse according to the Grant Mayer at the time.
