For those not on the email list:
Grant Mayer resigns as CEO of Adelaide United
Adelaide United wishes to advise the resignation of Chief Executive Officer, Grant Mayer.
Mayer was appointed Chief Executive Officer in October 2015, overseeing the Club’s history-making Championship and Premiership double of the Hyundai A-League 2016/17 campaign.
In what he has described as “the most gratifying role” of his career, Mayer said: “This was a difficult decision for me to make because I have loved every minute of my time here at Adelaide United.
“I want to thank the Club’s board and sponsors, the Club’s devoted members, the Red Army, and all Adelaide United fans for their unwavering support during my time here and I’ll be forever thankful for the opportunity they gave to me in this wonderful sporting code.
“This was the most gratifying role of my career to date and the greatest highlight I’ve experienced would have to be the opportunity to host and win the Hyundai A-League Grand Final in South Australia and at the Adelaide Oval.
“I will remain in South Australia in my next role and I will continue to be an avid fan of the Club and this sport in Australia.”
Adelaide United Chairman, Greg Griffin, said he was disappointed to be losing someone so instrumental in the Club’s recent successes, but thanked Mayer for his invaluable contribution over the last two years.
“On behalf of Adelaide United’s board, sponsors, coaches, players, staff, and fans I want to thank Grant for his leadership and hard work from the moment he accepted the role with the Club as Chief Executive Officer.
“I am, of course, disappointed to see Grant leave our Club, but understand his ambitions and respect his decision.
“We will begin the process of looking for a suitable and experienced replacement for Grant, but I am positive the current management team at the Club will continue to lead us in the right direction.
“Grant’s knowledge of sporting administration and the nature of sport in this country is outstanding and it is for this reason that we have appointed Grant an Advisory Board Member of Adelaide United.”
Speaking on his new role, Mayer said: “I’m thankful to Greg and the Adelaide United board for affording me the opportunity to remain involved with the Club and I am excited to be part of many more successes in the coming years as the Reds return to the top of the Hyundai A-League.”
Mayer will conclude his time at Adelaide United on Wednesday, 27 September.
Adelaide United wishes Grant all the best for his future and thank him for his contribution to the Club’s history.

So he's not gonna pop up at Melbourne City then?

He got head hunted by SA Jockey Club apparently.

Taking up the CEO role there.

I liked him and thought he did a good job.

wasnt there an issue when he first started at the club that he also had a role at the sa jockey club which griffen did not seem to be aware of.

sounds a little fishy as always at AUFC. i wont lose any sleep over it though.

Hopefully the club find a new CEO who will reconnect with the supporters, someone who will aim for and work toward full-houses at Hindmarsh each week and not think that 3000 at Marden for a match against Melbourne Victory is something to be pleased about.

Good riddance.

Originally Racing NSW or something wanted him as CEO but he reneged to sign with AU.

Never liked the guy, never liked his attitude and especially didn't like the way he handled criticism. Arrogant snob.

He had his pluses but also had his issues. I can't say working cleaning up Griffin's mess would always be the easiest job.

Hopefully the next ceo can moved forward and look at the positives that Mayer achieved.

Did that marketing role get filled? I reckon there's a lot of room for improvement in the field especially improving awareness and advertising to the general public.

As with most CEOs he had his positives and negatives.

We won trophies under his watch but we've also seen a large disconnect between players, supporters and the club.

We've also seen the establishment of a good training facility and continued growth of our youth stocks, but failures in recruiting.

Depends whether you're a glass half empty or half full kinda person I guess.

depending what the specific job brief for AUFC ceo is id love to see Bonita Mersiades at the club.

It would never happen given her relationship with the FFA, plus i cant help but feel her talents would be wasted running an aleague club. Not sure what she is up to these days.

The training ground was before Mayer and the trophies won were because of the work of Gombau/Petrillo/Amor.

I guess you could attribute the IGA and Macron deals to him.
