Melbourne City v Adelaide United Match Day Jamboree!!!©

Postby Stuckey Wed Apr 05, 2017 11:41 am

Adelaide United will face Melbourne City in Round 26 of the Hyundai A-League 2016/17 season on Friday, 7 April at AAMI Park. Kick-off is at 7.20pm ACST.

How's this for a stat.
Guillermo Amor’s men have hit the woodwork on 13 occasions this campaign, which is twice more than any other side in the Hyundai A-League and six more times than their Victorian opponents.
I think this stat coupled with the shocking injury record the club has had to deal with is reason for me to feel I think we've (at times) been pretty hard on the club. Some of those posters go in at important moments (especially earlier in the season) and this season would have been very different.

Debut of the VAR (video assistant referee) this round. They did a test with a womens game before out game in the central coast a couple of weeks ago. An incorrect red card and penalty were overturned, however the game had 30 minutes of extra time/injury time.

I kind of hate the idea of the VAR, bad decisions happen in football, sometimes it goes your way, sometimes it doesnt.

It is only used in goal, penalty, straight red card and mistaken identity situations. It will not stop or deter simulation outside the box which is a bit of a shame.

La Rocca and Kim JS return to the squad, kitto drops off the team sheet completely after being named in the preliminary squad last week.

Bugger that...

Good to see we have a near fully fit squad for the long offseason.

I've just realised that AU and MC are the bunnies for the first "Video Ref" game.

Expect the unexpected.

Obviously as something is introduced its not going to be as good as it can be. If we look at DRS in cricket its only a few years old and it's already much quicker than it used to be. But that too isn't perfect yet.
I personally don't see the issue with it. If it's going to take some refereeing errors out of the game and like cricket, officials can use it as a tool to improve then I feel it's only going to be a good thing.
The fact that something like the Berisha dive to win Brisbane the grand final a few years ago is potentially going to be a thing of the past excites me a great deal.
Hopefully in the future the VAR can just watch the game like the other assistant officials and can raise something the ref missed at any point. It just seems crazy to me that we all get the benefit of all the TV cameras to make a decision on something that's taken place. But the one person who's decision matters isn't allowed to use the resources on offer.

O'Doherty's injury has been a problem. He was developing nicely. Still, we have a decent squad for tonight.

I agree. He was looking very good especially in the ACL matches. These final games of the HAL season where there is nothing to play for would have been a fantastic opportunity for him to really stake his claim for a starting role going forward.
I just hope he doesn't become a victim of his own versatility. He's been excellent centrally as well as out wide. But I still feel on the wing is his best position.

Two weeks in a row I'll be able to watch the game live! I'm actually expecting a decent result tonight. AU have had City's measure this season.

AU paying $5 for the win and $4 for the draw. Not bad odds considering we are unbeaten in 5, full strength squad and city are very inconsistent.

I think we have a good shot at winning this. I'll be there, for like my second or third game of the season
