After the season WHU have had I would not be surprised if it's "boot camp" instead of a sunny trip to Oz for the Irons.
Leaving the Boleyn Ground was also a bummer.
Only time will tell if the new stadium produces the economic parity the board believes it will deliver.

Re: AUFC vs West Ham in July
I hope they can get someone although I wonder what sort of crowd West Ham would have pulled? I can imagine they wouldn't have been cheap to bring over and I doubt they would pull a similar crowd to Liverpool. I reckon 35k would be as high as I would expect.Sa gov was $300k short of bubbles. I'd personally be happy to see if AU could lure a big money Chinese club here. The big names would get a decent crowd at Hindmarsh.
Although they will be mid-way thru the season come the HAL pre-season. Maybe a South American club?

I tend to agree. There are extremely few clubs that have the "pull" factor required to make the exercise worthwhile.35K? Try 20
You'd almost be better off getting a Nottingham Forest or Leeds that would result in a similar crowd for far lower cost. Maybe even have the game at a jam-packed Hindmarsh if the numbers added up.
I dare say the numbers don't add-up which is why it doesn't happen.

Re: AUFC vs West Ham in July
I think West Ham has a bit of a cult following so the numbers would be higher than another mid-table EPL side. I agree welcoming a club to Hindmarsh would be a better exercise. I thoroughly enjoyed the Villarreal game there a while ago. Obviously a club the size of an EPL or La Liga club isn't coming to Australia just to play at Hindmarsh. They'd have to tie it in with a tour of some sort.

That Villarreal game was great, absolute travesty that so few people would come out for a team of that calibre (but so many would pay five times as much to sing YNWA at a cricket ground).
All I need is some tasty waves, a cool buzz, and I'm fine.

I'm certainly not a Liverpool fan. But being part of YNWA was pretty special. That Villarreal game was great, absolute travesty that so few people would come out for a team of that calibre (but so many would pay five times as much to sing YNWA at a cricket ground).
But I agree it's ridiculous.

Paying $100 to sing a song for 1 minute and then remain silent for 90 minutes is ridiculous, but 50,000 people did it.
I was there to cheer on Adelaide United (the Reds who weren't allowed to wear red), but I felt like a foreigner in my own home town watching my own home team.
What a load of bollocks it was, and I decided not to go to one of those games again.

Re: AUFC vs West Ham in July
It was a Liverpool home game. AU don't have to money or resources to organise something like that. It was a Liverpool marketing exercise.Paying $100 to sing a song for 1 minute and then remain silent for 90 minutes is ridiculous, but 50,000 people did it.
