Re: Adelaide United statement.
With this thinly veiled threat "will be dealt with" one wonders what the response will be from fans and the active support.
Having Griffin and an accompanying lady being the recipients of abuse and projectiles is uncalled for to say the least. But the clubs responce is diabolical and we probably haven't heard the last of this.
Will the active supporters boycott in responce? Will they walk out at the 60th?
Or will they do the reverse Posnan Dance? Interesting times!
As for me, I always said this was a franchise and not a club like all the rest of course. This just validates my stance and is another good validation for expansion and the entrance of teams like Adelaide City/West Adelaide and SMFC!

^ Sorry dude, but I stopped reading after the first paragraph.
People forget these guys have put their hands in their pockets and the club still exists because of that fact. They were not football people. The net result?
FFA Cup
Premiers Plate
Champion Toilet Seat
Pub owned by club
Training facility at Elizabeth
I watched them in Melbourne before the 2006 (i think) semi final warm up in a park. A park. Balls went into the Yarra. My friend got a ball for them and now has Yarra foot. It was like a pub team.
We have come so far.
If you think these guys are paying themselves 400k a year and have bonuses etc etc, nope, your wrong.
I have had many long chats with the guys on the board, ex board members even owners of the stadium and they do try. They may get it wrong at times, but hey, we still have a football team to support.
NO one should have to endure what they went through last night. It was fucking pathetic. Fat drunken slobs like animals behind wire hurling abuse. Pathetic.

Re: Adelaide United statement.
What you are seeing here is a major disconnect from the Footballing Establishment (FFA, A League and Franchises) with the grassroots and fans.
Make no mistake about it. We are all just numbers, cattle, a market. They love us for as long as we hand over our hard earned. But don't dare express an opinion. Will this happen in Europe? If it did, then there would be a revolt. And the media there is 10 times more brutal than any of us.
When there is no connection to the grassroots then there is no direction beyond that of the boardroom and the commercialism. This reared its ugly head last year with the media expose of "hooligans" on the Daily Telegraph thanks to a Police Leak, and it is rearing its ugly head again at AUFC!
I agree with you that the board should not have to deal with any drunken abuse, hysteria or physical projectiles. That really is pathetic. But it was also just a few morons who did that or would do it. The so called statement however never mentioned that incident specifically and lobbed all AUFC fans into the one basket.)
Hold on for the ride now friends!

There is a meeting between Grant Mayer and probably others and the Red Army on Tuesday night. With this thinly veiled threat "will be dealt with" one wonders what the response will be from fans and the active support.

Re: Adelaide United statement.
AUFC could have handled this way better.
Firstly, the lady should not have reacted against an angry mob. That was never going to work out well for AUFC.
Secondly, find out who these thugs were. Someone must know them. They might have been captured on camera. Ban them for being abusive and throwing stuff.
Thirdly, get proper PR professionals to write official statements. This AUFC statement is only going to throw fuel onto the naked flame.

Re: Adelaide United statement.
If the person with Greg was Sandra then that indeed is his wife so I think in this that is totally uncalled for.
I still find this all ridiculous that Greg and Grant are always the first names people throw around when deciding to lay blame on people yet Ante and Gui never get mentioned. The side isn't playing well and the people in charge of signing players and the person in charge of coaching the players aren't doing a bad job?

Yeah, shocking PR from the club on this one.
Its concerning if we are paying this mob of journeymen and youth the full salary, some questions need to be asked there.
Club ought to be outlining what they will do to improve on the pitch and calling for fans to get behind them, not berate them (whilst understanding our frustration).
Should we try to Oz Marquee Burns, McGowan or even Inmann to salvage the season and an ACL campaign???

Inman did his knee at the start of the season I'm pretty sure.Yeah, shocking PR from the club on this one.

As the club outlined at the start of the season outlining their direction or position publicly is probably one of the dumbest things a club can do as it plays entirely into the player agents hands who are aiming to get their client the highest wage possible.

Re: Adelaide United statement.
All sides of this come out looking equally idiotic to me, from the spanners abusing Griffin & his wife outside the ground, to the "professionals" running the club sniping at the fans publicly.
The club is meeting with the Red Army re what happened, why couldn't this have been organised behind closed doors without all the pathetic airing of dirty laundry over social media, etc. It's incredibly disappointing how quickly all the good will and positive momentum from last season has been squandered.
Now again there are promises being made of signings in this window. Can already see the pitchforks out again when the month ends without every current socceroo imaginable having been signed. Should be a delight

Re: Adelaide United statement.
I do understand the club's desire to respond to the fans sometimes. When you have people posting absolute mindless garbage towards the club it must be bloody frustrating reading it. The club has to obviously read everything posted towards them, especially if a fan contacts the club for a genuine reason and doesn't get a response the club looks bad, I see many fans contacting the club on SM to raise membership issues and enquiries, which is obviously a terrible way to go about it. But I have no doubt all clubs have to deal with this these days, imagine the amount of garbage an EPL club would cop week in week out.

Re: Adelaide United statement.
Personally I think the bagging of the board above all others is ridiculous.
When a team's not performing there a number of potential reasons that it can happen:
Is the poor squad only the board's fault? They're responsible for how much the club spends mostly and we are apparently spending the whole cap + loyalty bonus and other concessions (I'm aware one person is saying that's not true).
There are a lot of other people involved that are getting off scot-free for the situation we're in and In my opinion it's because they're either less prominent in the media or have less abrasive personalities.
When a team's not performing there a number of potential reasons that it can happen:
- Poor squad due to recruiting
- Injuries
- Poor coaching. Players not playing for the coach, poor matchday squad selection or poor tactics
- Some bad luck
- Players not performing to the standards expected
- Other things which are escaping me at the moment

Re: Adelaide United statement.
I'm sure that we know some of the people likely involved in the tirade against Greg, I can be certain it went to far. It doesn't excuse the ridiculous response from the club however. How the club thinks stating 100% of the cap and all concessions available were exhausted prior to the season commencing is meant to be reassuring I will never know.
