Rd 6: AUFC v BNE 11-11-16

Erghh.

Hope people don't mind me starting the match thread fairly early, I think there's a lot to talk about! Obviously the result and the 2nd half last night was an abortion - we showed some quality in the 1st half, but it's really looking like the self-belief is nearly shot ... Psychologically it will be crucial that we play a good game against Brisbane, win lose or draw.

We have problems in a few areas but getting the midfield working again will be critical.

------------Galekovic-------------
Elrich--McGowan--LaRocca--Garuccio
-------------Isaias---------------
---------Holland--Carrusca--------
Kitto-------Guardiola------ODoherty

Hall / McGree / Makarounas / Marino / Warland
All I need is some tasty waves, a cool buzz, and I'm fine.

We really need a win to turn that around IMO. Last season when we were in a similar position we came up against a really poor Perth side and scraped a win. Problem is this year I don't see any real basketcases so we're going to have to have some luck.

Yeah. We've already lost to Mariners and drawn with Jets... Yet to play the Nix but they're busily playing themselves into form at the moment. D'oh.
I can see our first win coming via one of the stronger teams getting complacent. Hopefully that's Brisbane but they are looking very good.

IMO Brisbane always seem to inconsistant. We never know which side will show up.
I still think a slight change in fortune and AU will get a win.
But the side also needs to work on playing out the 90 mins.
Time to Djbate!

New kit coming out this week. Its Remembrance round and I remember Grant Mayer saying we'll have a special one for this match.

Kitto is ok, but I don't think he has enough upside (unlike O'Doherty).
I therefore hope someone on our recruitment staff spends a fair while this weekend talking Borello in to coming home next year.

How about making a play for Melling? Bring him home. The two payers we are really missing this season are Mauk and Goodwin. They had the grunt that is missing from Mells and Makarounis. Get some bite back into the midfield.

I agree that we need the urgency... but I really don't rate Melling!

He's a bulldog and he can run and hassle the opponents but thats it. Maybe thats what we need right now but its just a short term fix. Fix is probably a strong word at that. Its not worth the effort imo.

That's quite a lovely shirt. Well done to all involved.

Brisbane at home. We only beat them when it's visible we're going to be champions, aka one league win and one FFA Cup win in over six years.

I also don't rate Makarounas, which is annoying because I really expected to.

I think we were are hoping for a Jeggo type story and instead we have got a Dugandzic situation. Both Makarounas and Dugandzic also played more than I am sure was intended at the starts of the seasons due to injuries so in both cases it has made the signings look worse than they really were.
It is sort of the worst kind of situation, recruit a player to be a backup squad player, injuries mean they start immediately and they play badly.

Still if we have Isaias, Holland and Carrusca starting as the midfield three then that is quality. The front three of Kitto, Guardiola and O'Doherty should get better service and we should be able to control the game better.
I am Scott

Well said, I think you've hit it on the nose. I really do feel like we were in for another Jeggo, or at least I hoped so.

O'Doherty does seem like a new young winger who can really blossom under Amor, it feels pretty good too have these young players coming through who seem like they can really lift.

Yeah its really not the end of the world if makarounis does not grow into his role.

Mells is more than capable and still only 19.

Looking at our recruits who have shown a fair bit already, kitto, mcgree, odoherty and garuccio i am confortable our shrewd signings.

Ontop of that guardiola is the goods just needs some service and henrique has been in fantastic form until the injury.

Makarounis bombing is not the end of the world.
