AUFC 2016 NPL Season
Well the season is a long way away but the pissantry has already begun!
Lots of whinging and lack of memory from a lot of new rival clubs. Its a Val article so I'm not sharing a link.
One point that is very interesting though it the group of clubs complaining that AU shouldn't be allowed youth sides like what WA and AC had back when they were in the NSL.
But the main point is that there is a claim that this youth squad will be government funded which might mean that the FFSA is no longer doing their NTC squad and AU will take over that. Very good news for the club but I can certainly see why other clubs wouldn't be overjoyed about that.

Did other states oppose aleague clubs joining their league like this?
Its not as if aufc will actually win either.

I doubt all the other clubs interstate would be overjoyed they are competing with HAL clubs but I don't think this much of a fight was put up.Did other states oppose aleague clubs joining their league like this?

I know the NZ and NNSW welcomed their HAL clubs to take part.
IMO I think this comes down to AU needing to build and maintain a quality relationship with the federation and other clubs. Obviously everyone is out for their own best interests. Our chairman coming out and complaining about these parties to the media isn't the best way to do that.
I would love to see the club look at filling the void that has been created by the shortened NYL season with a summer tournament for NPL clubs and the AU NYL side. AU could then allow fringe HAL players to take part, otherwise there is very little football for them to take part in over the HAL season to gain form and fitness.

They can have the NPL finals one.
Relegation is fine too.
The fixture rescheduling needs to be limited but should be permitted. It's about developing players for the state and country and everyone gets benefit from that.
The rest they can go jump over IMO.

Re: AUFC 2016 NPL Season
I agree. I know that was Petrillo's thoughts as well. The club wasn't interested in finals or trophies. Although I understand that creates another issue with clubs and the federation getting upset AU aren't taking the league entirely seriously. They can have the NPL finals one.

That's where the issue of the first team taking a break in the season to go to Spain comes up as well. I kind of agree that AU should still have to play those games. Although that probably would be possible if the FFSA didn't restrict AU to a 30 man squad.

Apparently AU are threatening to pull out of the NPL. Terrible news if true.

???? I do hope this is just rumour, and just bluster if not. Pulling out of the NPL serves no purpose.Apparently AU are threatening to pull out of the NPL. Terrible news if true.
EDIT: Just noticed it is a FN rumour. I think I will wait for something slightly more official.

Re: AUFC 2016 NPL Season
I agree I think AU would be the only ones who lose out of this. Surely a number of players would be looking for other clubs as a result. Hopefully this is BS. Considering Val is the one mentioning it there's every chance of that.

What a joke. If there is any substance to this rumour then that is terrible news.
I hope it's nothing and not Greg Griffen wanting to save money again.

Are we the only state that cannot get this sorted?

It is utter BS that there are two conferences. NSW and everyone else. And it's supposed to be based on geographical location which is just plain sh*t as ours includes Brisbane who are closer to NSW than us.
Much more expensive for us and those in the "other" conference.

Re: AUFC 2016 NPL Season
Well GG has officially come out and said we won't be competing in 2016 unless there are changes.
Think this is just posturing from AU but disappointing it has come to this.
Is it true that every other state follows FFA guidelines but SA? What a farce.

http://www.adelaidenow.com.au/sport/foo ... f17047d76bADELAIDE United will not field teams in the 2016 national premier league after Football Federation SA sanctioned restrictions contrary to Football Federation Australia guidelines.
I think there is a long way to run on this. I still think the club will field a side this is just the club's way of asking the FFA to enforce their guidelines.

Re: AUFC 2016 NPL Season
I tend to agree, though the relationship with the FFSA and some of the clubs remains poor (only some, others have been quite good from what I can gather). On one hand they want us to be treated the same as them.....as long as we have further age limits, smaller squad sizes and no juniors.I think there is a long way to run on this. I still think the club will field a side this is just the club's way of asking the FFA to enforce their guidelines.

Re: AUFC 2016 NPL Season
If United were under the same rules as everyone else then I dont see how the competitions integrity is compromised.Carter said the national premier league was the state’s highest competition and clubs were “rightfully protective” of the integrity of the competition.
Seems they are protecting certain clubs.
We are UNITED, after all....
