Cheaper for who ?

The government would not have anything to do with a second club thus would not cost them a cent.

All im saying if the government say, " Sure we would like to upgrade hindmarsh but we need 2 tennants booked for the next 5 years." Its not out of the question FFA may commit to backing a second franchise in adelaide at the completion of an upgrade as apart of the deal.

However rugby league or union could also be interested in an adelaide franchise though id assume this would be a harder sell for investors.

Either way you look at it there needs to be 2 long term tennants to add weight to a stadium upgrade.
In general. Someone would have to pay for it.
A second Adelaide side would obviously be great for a few reasons. Offering Adelaide players another chance of HAL football would be nice. Although considering AU is trying to lure players like Garuccio and Marino that doesn't say a lot about the local players.
But beside the 3 or 4 Adelaide derbies a second Adelaide side wouldn't get a decent crowd almost ever. So opening Hindmarsh at what would almost certainly be a loss for around 10 games isn't going to help the situation it'll probably make it worse.

I'd love to see the AU NPL side play there over the winter and with the help of AU HAL, FFSA and the Government using the game to advertise AU and the local league maybe it could be a ok thing as long as the games are viewed as an advertisement for the league and funded accordingly. Otherwise I think we really need to seriously look at Rugby. NRL has lured decent crowds in the past. A Wallabies game would be awesome as well.

A new stadium should probably also be designed to be good for concerts that are too big for the Entertainment Centre but not big enough for AO. By designed, I mean it should have a way to be able to set up a stage and other equipment without damaging the pitch.

Well yes! Maybe the whole pitch doesn't need to be removable though just the seating at one end. The solution they have there looks pricey due to the amount of time and manpower required.

Haha for sure that would cost a fortune. Unless the pitch is removable the pitch will have to be covered which will effect the it but not dramatically. But adjustable seating at one end to set up a stage would be ideal.

I thought this is kinda relevant to this thread, construction costs etc.
SA construction boom: Adelaide developments 'gold plated' as riverbank transforms
He said the resources boom put upward pressure on labour equipment, material and costs but since the resources bust, those costs had not come down enough.

ADELAIDE United chairman Greg Griffin says the city needs a new stadium to give Reds and SA soccer the best chance of long-term success.

I think this is a big season for AU to prove that they can demand a larger stadium.

But I still believe a stadium that is only going to be used 7-8 months of the year isn't a viable thing.
The interested parties need to find other tenants especially thru the winter.
Minister for Sport Leon Bignell said the Government estimated it would need $80 million to refurbish Coopers Stadium and poured cold water on the idea of a new stadium.
I seriously doubt an upgrade to Hindmarsh would be double what it could to build it in the first place.

But costs aside a stadium around Adelaide Oval would be amazing. Providing Adelaide a sporting precinct and simplifying transport plans and strategies towards that area.

Will be a sad, sad day if United ever leave Hindmarsh. Do not want.

I'd have to move house! Half the reason I own a place where I do is the close proximity to Hindmarsh!

It would be sad but if the club out grows the stadium then it's for the best. But IMO the stadium could be relatively easily expanded which would suit the club for another 10 years at least.

Its no more than political josling to get more hindmarsh stadium upgrades. I think its a case of reach for the stars so you can get to the moon.

20k at hindmarsh is all aufc will ever need, anything more and its well and truly time for a second adelaide club.

I wonder if Griff has seen CCM josling for management of their stadium and this is a push for that. If the government comes out and says Hindmarsh isn't profitable enough for an upgrade then the club can claim it's down to mismanagement.

Seeing the Syd and Melb derbies makes me think how awesome it would be having an Adelaide derby.

Would pull a huge crowd.

Yeah that's the argument people who are calling for a 2nd Adelaide side make. Which is very true Adelaide derbies would be sensational. But those people can't seem to find an answer to the question on how many people are going to turn up the rest of the season and if the figure is below a sustainable level, where the money to fund the club is going to come from.
