tbh I think building over existing parklands would be a massive mistake.

The rail yards or some other derelict area, on the other hand, would be perfect.
I think this wouldn't be out of the question ...
Knock down the circled buildings.
The 19th C heritage listed church complex and the fire & folk museum???
good luck with that :D

I think they would need to be retained and worked around, incorporated into the design of an extension. The one at the corner is the most problematic. I guess the new structure could overhang (like the Adelaide City Council building (I think) that overhangs the little church behind it in between Pirie & Flinders St).
All I need is some tasty waves, a cool buzz, and I'm fine.

I feel there is also plenty of space around the city for a purpose build rectangular stadium.

In the Torrens! :P
Hah! That's Singapore if I am not mistaken
Correct! At one point the ASEAN Football Cup was apparently going to use this pitch. I don't think they did in the end sadly.

Yeah its unlikely. But if the government really wanted it to happen I could see it getting pushed thru. IMO its either that option or just increasing the size of the Eastern stand would be the most likely options. Considering they obviously aren't going to throw the sort of money they did at AO.

Actually another potential spot that would be perfect.

Again buring the train line would be necessary. This would be perfect for public transport and would be in line with this governments clear intent on getting more and more people to the Riverbank precinct.
I reckon the Casino would mind this also.
As Phil said the parklands are probably out of the question and really given how much space is wasted around Adelaide as is. Unnecessary to eat into as well.

If im not mistaken, that area has already been snapped up for Uni Adelaide's new medical building. In fact I believe they are already doing the foundations. Most of that side of the river has already been "planned" for the medical precinct along with cafes and such, to which the train lines will be buried.

A-League clubs finally starting to contrusct and redevelopment proper training facilities
With a long-term lease at Playford set to be agreed, the Reds hope those problems will soon be a thing of the past. Then, the next aim is to transform Coopers Stadium into what would be - arguably - the finest football-only stadium in the country.

“ Over the last year or so, we’ve seen some investment put into Hindmarsh - the new seats are fantastic. The owners (Adelaide Entertainment Centre), are now looking at other things. The most important development would be increasing the capacity and spectator comfort, with the first step being roofs over the stands. We sold 12,000 tickets for both the Perth and the Wanderers games, yet the crowd figures were under 10,000. What that shows I think, is that some people made the decision not to come and sit out in the open in 35 degree heat, which was the common factor for both games.” says Petrillo.

“If we increase spectator comfort, we will increase the crowds. We’ve had informal discussions about putting another tier on the East stand, and filling the corners in the North and South stands. That would increase capacity to 22,000 - and we’d have the roof all the way round. The owners are determined to keep improving it, and I think the government’s intention is to see that happen too. It’s just a matter of timing.” says Petrillo.

Let’s hope it’s sooner rather than later. With football’s popularity growing rapidly, it’s vital the facilities at professional level aren’t left behind.

A relevant excerpt from Simon Hill's article about A-League clubs improving off field. The article also talks about our new training and office base up in Playford.

Interesting to hear we sold 12k tickets to not only the Wanderers game, but against Perth also.

Yeah exposure to the elements is probably Cooper's biggest issue. It would be great if the club could somehow be involved in the redevelopment from a financial sense. Taking a stake in the stadium would be great for the club. I wonder if that's something Datong could be useful with?

Also in the last month, AU has re-signed Isa, Bruce, Chelo, Marrone, Cirio. Signed a former Real Madrid player, announced a game against Liverpool, had rumours that they are playing a La Liga club surface, finally fielded a side in the local league, now announced their training base is coming along and that they are in talks with the AEC over increasing the size of Coopers.

It'd be nice if we had some local coverage praising such good work.

Kudos to Simon Hill for giving all aleague clubs in that article a pat on the back.

If it were the Crows or even Port to a lesser extent, our pissant bogan media would enter into a wankfest hyperdrive.

With any announcement made by the club on development of a training base I would take this with a pinch of salt! There have been many false dawns in the past and we shouldn't see it as a done deal just yet.
Will be great if it happens but lets wait and see.

This has been how I've been treating it.

Still good that at least publicly the relationship between the club and the AEC has improved.

The Veneto club not eventuating was pretty disappointed. But that involved us putting our own money in that, which we were not to keen on doing with Rini truly screwing things up on the field and crowds dwindling.
But these fifa standard pitches will be installed as well as club rooms, the playford council is going ahead with it. So im slightly more optimistic than compared to the adelaide shores.
