Burgeoning Adelaide United star Awer Mabil is on the radar of Dutch giant Ajax with the 33-time Eredivisie champion inviting the teenager for a trial in January with an eye on a possible permanent move during the transfer window.

Surely a healthy transfer fee would be involved if he's been signed till 2017.

Great news for all involved!

For reference.

Feel he's a bit too young, still very exciting for him.

Great news for him being recognised by a reasonably famous club in Europe.

Would need to be a huge transfer fee though.

I honestly cant see mabil leaving in the near future. He has Gombau and Amor watching over him and he will be getting regular game time here and to add to that, during the post game interview when asked about the relationship he has with gombau , mabil said "he is like a father to me" . Which is a massive thing for him to say considering the tragic loss of his father in the sudanese civil war.

Mabil has also said in interviews how important it is to be there for his mother and family so i think he would be reluctant to leave so early.

Goodluck to him either way though, the kid deserves it!!

Too soon, just look to Bruce and Nathan Burns.

And the set-up at AUFC now is far better than it was then so I'd hope he'll stay and develop for a few years. Lots of maturing to do still.

Was worried he'd miss the goal he scored yesterday, but it shows he's getting it together - and possibly been watching footage of Thierry Henry the way he opened the body and swept that one home.

Yeah exactly right, look at so many kids heading overseas too early. Look at Kruse or Ryan who stuck around in the league much longer and developed into better players instead of heading overseas to to just basically continue their development.

Best scenario for Awer and the club would be for him to sign with a big Euro club but then be loaned back to AUFC to continue his development. Probably unlikely given they can't keep close tabs on his development but I am sure with our Spanish links of Josep and Amor, a move to a Spanish club would be a possibility.
Any deal must be well constructed with on-sell clauses to cash in if he was to really make it in the big time.

Great news for Awer, but simply too early in his career. If anything, I would like him loaned back to us until the end of next season.

Very good points re his family situation though.

he has always been open about his interest in playing in europe.
and im sure the extra $$$ would be a huge help for his family.

i think he is better off staying here to continue his development under gombau and amor.

Wait till Josep gets offered the senior gig at Barca and he can take Awer with him

Not sure comparing Mabil to Burns and Djite's moves to Europe is fair... Ajax are a giant of European football renowned for their development of players.

Even if the young lad never played a game for them, I would imagine after a year or 2 in that system he would come out a far more polished player than if he stayed here for that time...

Good luck to the lad!
