Castle Plaza Tavern

Postby Stuckey Wed Feb 12, 2014 5:45 pm

So we still have to wait a week or two to find out whether this will certainly go thru or not but it sounds likely.
One thing I feel this place would be best for is engaging the Football Eurosnobs of Adelaide. The amount of times I have conversations with football fans about EPL clubs only to slide the conversation to the HAL and find them bagging the hell out of it.
I hope the club makes a large effort to advertise that they are showing EPL matches at the venue and make it a bit of a Rosemont pub outside of the city.

I hope it isn't a pokie ridden place as I can't stand the slot machines.

I wouldn't go there then if I were you!
As Glenn discussed in the meeting. Every AFL and NRL club has a pokie venue. If AU want to get somewhere financially this is the path they seemingly have to take.

Fair enough. Problem is my favourite place for a beer in Adelaide is the Exeter.....and there are no tvs to watch the A-League (or any sport for that matter!).

That's probably why its such a great pub. Watching HAL is the reason I go to many Adelaide pubs I otherwise would never attend.

Sturt didn't make much out of this place. If sources are correct they got a very small %. Not so certain about this place. Would of loved them buying the Veneto club and putting pokies in there. Could of turned it into a great training venue, play Youth games there and put on meals etc.

Absolutely. Well regardless of if its a small income. Any income for the club would be great!

You'd want 5% return bare minimum - otherwise it's better and safer to invest in term deposits or bonds.

With the risk associated with pub ownership you'd want much, much more return for that risk.

For Your Information
The Adelaide United Members Club Inc. (AUMC) is now the licensee of the Castle Tavern at the Castle Shopping Centre, South Road, Edwardstown. The Club is now able to offer all members and AUFC supporters the full range of Hotel services:
· Sports Front Bar including Pool Table, Juke Box, TAB and keno
· Lounge Bar and Dining Room
· Gaming Room
· Celebrations Bottle Shop
The profits made by AUMC will be directed to AUFC junior football programs. As of October this year the members' club will be launching coaching clinics across Adelaide. These will be funded through profits made at the Tavern. These are exciting times. As of next week there will be FoxSports in the Tavern to give all our fans the chance to watch football in a friendly environment when so many other Pubs are refusing to show games on Fox due to cost.
The Tavern is there to be successful to fund these fantastic programs and to give our fans and Club members a football friendly venue. We need your support and input.
This is a great move by the Members Club but it needs the support of our football community to deliver the services and results to build junior football. Ignore the Pokie Barons and support a true Club that is there for community benefit and plans to build football in our state.
Opening Hours:

WTF?
" Football Eurosnobs of Adelaide."

Tell them to grow a brain and get with it.
It's the same game just a different time zone.

Yeah. I think its the same people that bag out the SANFL because AFL is better. I feel like telling those people that they must be some sort of scientist to work that out!

excellent news, has been in the pipe works for some time now.

does the club receive rent from the bottle shop or does the club franchise the Celebrations store - how does that relationship work? the AUMC would make plenty of money from a grog shop!

side note, it saddens me that this country needs pubs open at 7:30am 6 day's a week.. although maybe they serve breakfast? I've never been there. do they serve meals at all?

EDIT - just re-read, 'dining room', you'd hope that would mean hot food!
