Fyfe to Iran?
Just saw from the AUFC Facebook page that Fyfe has been cleared to talk to an Iranian club who have made him a 'very good offer' according to Petrillo.
Don't know how much weight can be put to it but there is also a rumour on facebook that McKain and Boogard are on the way out too...as I said, not sure if there's much to this but if there's anything in it we might be a bit light on in the middle of Defence come the start of the season...

Out of those I'd only be disappointed to lose McKain.

Re: Fyfe to Iran?
If you look at who all the CBs we have:
McKain, Golec, Fyfe, Boogard, Elsey
We have too many for a 27 game A-league season. If we get injuries then we'd still be screwed and we have Malik that could slot in if we get that desperate.
I think they've simply been trying to offload at least one of them and I'm glad that it isn't Golec as I think he's our most promising for the short term.
Always liked Fyfe's passion for the team as an Adelaide boy but it'd be harsh to see him on the pine (or any of them really) a lot of the season.
I wonder who Josep has in mind to replace him?

Re: Fyfe to Iran?
Well the story was that Boogaard was being shopped around to Korean & Chinese sides, but I would imagine that if Fyfe were to leave Boogs would stay. I think both have been good servants to the club and good players (despite all the armchair critics) but as others have said there are only so many CB spots to go around.
McKain is a notch above in class when he is full fit & firing, and Golec is rapidly developing into a great player (future Socceroo IMO), plus there's Elsey in the mix as well.
I think we're covered at CB for now, but maybe there are plans to give both Fyfe & Boogs the arse and bring in someone else? Time will tell...
PS if only Ange Costanzo was a few years younger and still playing, I think he would be exactly the type of CB Gombau would want to build a defense around.

All I need is some tasty waves, a cool buzz, and I'm fine.

Surprising to hear this. I'd be happy for Fyfe (and it must be a decent offer) but if we were to lose McKain and Boogaard as well, then we may run into a bit of trouble. Agreed that McKain is a force to be reckoned with when fit, despite what his critics have said I actually think he fell in love with Adelaide and AU itself. We need to keep him at least.
Golec is developing brilliantly and has the attitude to match. Future Ognenovski-like lad building there. Speaking of Sasa, if them three do leave...

Re: Fyfe to Iran?
Keep McKain, Boogs played well in the All Stars game, he has moments of WTF but he should be ok in the end.
Yes, Golec is awesome.
And double yes, we want Sasa back.

Re: Fyfe to Iran?
I read that Newcastle were considering Boogard.
IMO Mckain and Golec are most likely to be our CB pairing. The others are good defenders but not so good with the ball. Although Fyfe has performed well as a defensive Mid in ACL matches.
Why is Iran a terrible move for Fyfe if the price is right plus its actually a beautiful country.

Re: Fyfe to Iran?
Fyfe had a kid only late last year. His first. Not sure how little Fyfe would cope. On the plus side, Fyfe would be right at home with that beard of his.

Re: Fyfe to Iran?
Both Fyfe and Boogard need to go. Fyfe can't pass and Boo is prone to mistakes under pressure, neither are desirable traits in a centre back playing this system.
Re: Fyfe to Iran?
I thought Iran was pretty obviously a dangerous place to travel, let alone live with a family:

As for Boogs, he completely won me over when he played for the All Stars.

Fair enough.
A huge move for him, culturally, socially, Geo-politically.
The food is fantastic.
The club he is mooted to join, Mes Kerman, have two draws and a loss three games into the season.

Re: Fyfe to Iran?
Not really. Iran has one of the best football scenes in Asia with huge clubs with long histories that are well integrated into the lives of their respective communities.Iran = terrible move for Fyfe.
Check the crowds that turn up for Iranian ACL games; staggering.
Iran is a great choice for anyone that wants to immerse themselves in football.
Re: Fyfe to Iran?
I don't doubt that - it would just be a dangerous place to raise a family which is what I was referring to.
