Melling Pre-Season inside info!

Postby redhorse Fri Jul 26, 2013 4:42 pm

Just had a good chat with the almost forgotten Jacob Melling, he came into my work after training.

He's a top lad and honest too, didn't mind me going in depth. Got some good points from the conversation.

I asked him about last season how he didn't see any game time...compared to the year before. His response "Coach was a bit of a dickhead :D " So I'm assuming Kossie.

He also said training has been intense with josep and the attacking formations and play are already in full swing. He said the fans will come just to watch the play this year, the long ball has been nonexistent at training.

He told me he has a big battle on his hands to try and land a starting spot with all the mids we have. I thought he was a holding mid but he says he can play attacking also.

This one surprised me...He said watch for Tarek Elrich to play high attacking Right Mid instead of RB. Apparently Josep likes Watson and Golec at Right back. Also we wanted Nathan Burns instead of Tarek, but Nathan kept saying NO to all our offers!

Little bit of inside info in the boring pre-season

Devo we couldn't get Nathan Burns. And not sure what to make of Elrich at RM? I guess a RW will still be in front of him in a 4-3-3.

Best part of it all is the intensity and attacking nature of training. And no long balls!

How sexy it would have been to have Burnsy back with Brucey... the bromance alone would have filled up Hindmarsh!

So another former player declines a return. Hopefully this season will prove that was the wrong call. We need a culture change. I feel we are getting it from a fan perspective hopefully the squad is next.

I think money would have been a bigger sticking point. I think his history with us would have meant that we would have been offered first crack at him but couldn't afford him.

We were only going to get Elrich if we could get the two Spanish players for cheap enough so it wouldn't have left much for Burns.

And with Jets bidding for him we didn't have much of a chance.

Burns would need to be sure he would make the 11 also. Im not so sure it would be so clear cut here

That's true Ferreria if fit will be a gun this season.

Would have thought that's a pretty disrespectful thing to say about the coach who gave you a professional debut at age 15 and then your first professional contract.

Thanks for the info though redhorse

That's a bit harsh. He did get us within a whisker of an ACL semi final berth.

I found Kossie a bit bipolar amazing in some aspects but then down right idiotic in others.
