So the next two trial games will be played behind closed doors due to costs. I assume Santos is unavailable and staffing Hindmarsh is prohibitively expensive. A lot of people are saying it's the AEC's fault.

I'm annoyed, was looking forward to the next two, but in the context of the bigger picture the club needs greater control of Hindmarsh, somehow.

The supporters are entitled to have a whinge. The games were announced a while ago, we only find out the day before that the public will be locked out. Of course the AEC should be considering their bottom line but this is just penny pinching...

My hunch is that the AEC wanted a decent (read: prohibitive) fee for use of the ground/ facilities, or something to that effect. My other assumption is that AUFC pays for security et cetera at places like Santos, surely, or can someone shed some light on that?

Surely the logic would be: Maybe 800 people or something at most. A couple of security. Limited hospitality or even none - none would be OK. One wing open. I'd love to know what AEC were asking for?

Finally, as evidenced by the way clubs operate around the world it is a long-held right of the fan, and in this case probably a paying member/season ticket holder i.e a die hard, to get along to their teams's pre season matches. I'd like to know who made this impossible in this instance.

Oh don't get me wrong, I fully expected the whinging. It's in our blood here in Adelaide after all.

What I don't understand is why not make it clear from the start that it was a closed game? And I'm also pretty sure that the Strikers game was originally scheduled for Santos Stadium.

According to the paper today it will cost $1000 for a closed-doors match and $2500 to open it to the public. That's fuck-all money, and in any case would largely be recouped if there was a $5 entry charge or something.

$5? Even a gold coin donation would nearly do it lol.

Apparently close to 1,000 people rocked up for the first game. Gold coin donation would return $1-2k which is easily enough to spot the difference.

If that report is to be believed it's a little disappointing!

Perhaps there's more to it and Gombau is going to be practicing some top secret in-game tactics...

I dont remember a time when we have scored so many goals in preseason . Last year we were grinding out wins .

Our opposition hasn't exactly been tough. Even last preseason it was mixed: 6-2 v Roar was great fun.
