No one ever said it would be totally even.

But a team with blackwood , strain , elsey, kitto . Milesenic , odoherty in the first 11 clearly would still have a fighting chance as that team until last week was sitting a clear 4th despite teams below it with much more impressive names.

The only difference is in an open market that club now has greater control in keeping said players as they develop or at very least cashing in on them with a transfer fee.

Its very clear the current system with all it exemptions favours the wealthy ( as does an open market) yet the in its current form the cap totally leaves the other clubs unable to retain and profit from their talent.

Surprised? No.
Disappointed? Yes.

A bit more experience on the pitch is what we've needed this season and we have missed him.Image

Agree. Not surprised, but disappointed. Hope we had insurance covering his salary.
I'd be happy going into next season with Strain, Garuccio and Marrone as out first 3 options, so IMO it opens up a spot for another local youngster.

I think elrich has earnt a return to wsw and finish his career infront of family.

He played a big part in our 3 trophies under the spaniards watch and was unfortunate to get a long term injury last season

I hope he looks back and considers adelaide a second home.

For me, the priority is tying down Elsey. He is the future - Elrich is not.

I agree. I would be sad to see him go, personally I wouldn't be surprised if much of this was put in motion when Griff cracked the shits at him speaking out at the end of last season.

O'Doherty to WSW is the new rumour.
Apparently they've offered him a 2 year deal. Surely AU can match that?

I'll be sad to lose him but seeing play under Gombau is the best case scenario if he has to leave.
He needs more time in the HAL.

Surely the new owners aren't going to let us loose more of our best young players to A-league opponents.

Gotta tie down Elsey and O'Doherty. If we're not gonna poach other teams young stars, I at least expect us to be able to retain our own.

O'Doherty is a great young player, but not irreplaceable.

It wasn't that long ago people on here were saying how there is very little difference between the quality of an A-league player and an NSL player. Surely there must be half a dozen young players to choose from who could easily replace O'Dougherty.

(Actually that was largely tongue in cheek. I think there is a huge gap from NSL to A-L and it takes time even for the best young players to transition and not all can do so.)

If O'Doherty goes then Brook can step up for next season.
