Re: Who's signed for next season
Club Brugge wanted him back for a full preseason, so it must have been a fairly reasonable fee.

Re: Who's signed for next season
This will enable him to push for Socceroos selection being a regular starter in our side. Warren Joyce seemed like a toxic individual who would freeze players out if they didn't agree with his (lack of) philosophy. I'm glad he's gone from the league and chuffed that McGree has chosen to come home.

Its likely graham arnold gave this move his blessing given his willingness to promote players from the aleague plus his philosophy having a base in dutch football, so verbeek an manager could also have been a factor

Roland Alberg is on trial according to Rob Greenwood.

Super signing.
Come on united!
Go Bruce, get some more in!
( And they have improved the audio of the interviews, one can actually hear the questions being asked!)
Super wunderbar!we forked out some Euros...

Re: Who's signed for next season
Wow what is this!? AUFC paying prominent euro clubs transfer fees for young talent and actually putting visa players on a trial prior to signing... times have changed!
This roland alberg guy doesnt have the best clubs on his cv, however it appears he had a fantastic season in the MLS and then drifted through greece and bulgeria
Cska sofia is one of the biggest clubs in the country and Panonious is mid table greek super league.
His fifa rating have hovered between 68 and 72.
With all that in mind it would seem he is certainly a touch above average aleague quality without being a marquee.

Re: Who's signed for next season
It wouldn't surprise me if Brugge wanted to offload him, AU said we'll take him and you still have a couple of final payments of the original transfer. So we'll forgo those as a transfer fee?I'm sure we didn't pay a huge amount but it's amazing we paid anything
If the rule of transfer fees counting toward the cap is still in place this may be a clever way around it as AU are still financially burdened by taking Riley on but aren't actually forking out the money to do so.
Very very excited to have Riley back at AU. Him leaving AU was a massive hole in the direction I strongly feel the must head to be at all competitive.
Time to Djbate!

Plus, he may count as a "homegrown" player whose salary is not counted in the cap. So that may offset his wages vs transfer? It wouldn't surprise me if Brugge wanted to offload him, AU said we'll take him and you still have a couple of final payments of the original transfer. Re: Who's signed for next season
I wonder if we will start to see our highest paid players are young and talented locals with the visa guys being our mid tier players and mostly journeymen who essentially fill in the gaps?Apparently we paid a transfer fee of $1m for McGree.
Its an interesting approach and to be honest i like it!
For example mcgree, elsey , goodwin mabil and amini all in the same team with a few joe bloe journey visa players to fill the gaps. It certainly seems like this may be the approach going forward.
This new homegrown player rule really sets the league up to best cater to australian players rather rather old internationals looking for a pension.
