Re: Who's signed for next season
I reckon Isaias could certainly play #10 role, but then you miss his ability to change the pace of the game from the base of midfield. Juande / Isaias could be a magical combo though.
Anyway, the re-signing of a bona fide club legend (& POSSIBLY our best ever player, with due respect to Goodwin, Cassio, Carrusca, Dodd et al) is fuckin brilliant news whichever way you slice it.

All I need is some tasty waves, a cool buzz, and I'm fine.

Re: Who's signed for next season
very much Barca style half-back, dropping back in between the 2 CBs when in possession to play the ball out from deep, then stepping up.
But remember Josep using Isiais at CB moving to DM at times, not sure if that's up Carl's street.
Perfectly suited to that role with his composure & time on the ball & passing range, but don't know if Veart will go for that sort of Gomby/Amor tactical system

I think we'll see Juande and Issy rotate in and out of the team.

Re: Who's signed for next season
If they get their contracts mutually terminated, then by my understanding the club doesn't have to pay them out.The club is clearly limiting spending. You want them to spend money to lose players. If common sense were to prevail (I have my doubts given some of our recent recruitment), the obvious thing to do would be to terminate Caletti’s contact and re-sign Konstand.
He's not exactly dominated in his time here with the limited chances he's had. But IMO during his time with Brissy he showed he was up to the level. I'm excited to see what he can offer this season.
However surely you think that having 4 DM's is overkill though and leaves us with 2 CM's and no AM's?

I'm not a fan of a back 3/5 but I do think it's the best way to fit Isaias and Juande into the same team.very much Barca style half-back, dropping back in between the 2 CBs when in possession to play the ball out from deep, then stepping up.

Delianov/Gauci
Lopez Isaias Jakobsen
Halloran Juande D'Arrigo Goodwin
Mauk
Yengi Blackwood/one of the Toure's
We will need to sign someone who can cover Halloran as a right wing back though.

the club has no option but to play the pensioners, they are on decent 6 figure wages - so when fit; lopez/jakobsen/juande & issy will all have to start
to make that happen the team shape might look like this - its functional, but not specatular.
Gauci
Lopez Ansell Jakobsen Cavallo
Juande
Isaias Mauk
Halloran Yengi Goodwin
this has got to be our strongest lineup currently until we get the 2 additional recruits (which means no room for fan favourites like a toure, m toure, d'arrigo) & also yet again no actual #10
we are going to be slow centrally in midfield/defence and be susceptible to quick counter attacks and fast players
When we're attacking, cavallo pushes forward - juande drops back into almost a third centreback so we're not exposed defensively.
mauk roams about the pitch like normal, while issy will be a deep lying play maker
hopefully the likes of ethan alagich & bernado make there debut and more playing time for johnny yull. Musa toure has been ripping it up for the NPL reserves, and deserves a few mins as well

Jacob Tratt signed on a 1 year deal. Can play CB or RB. Good enough signing.

He did well at the Nix and was a handy backup at Sydney but was horrendous at Perth. Hopefully we see his NIx form.Jacob Tratt signed on a 1 year deal. Can play CB or RB. Good enough signing.

Also means that Timotheou will be relegated to 4th choice which can only be a good thing.

Think we are not signing imports Martin, it’s too hard.
As I type this I see Brisbane have “somehow” managed to sign an Argentine!

Re: Who's signed for next season
It feels to me that at this stage we have not improved the squad with any of the signings made so far, most are like for like or a downgrade on what we had already. Strain a big loss, looks like they are relying on massive improvement from the youngsters and that the 35 year old imports won’t break down with age. Big concerns for me on who we lost and the 3 signings made to date, none have me excited for the season ahead. No I don’t expect Messi, but AU have always been innovative on signings in the past, this time it seems like recycling known players despite Piet’s apparent global network ....

Scene: Nathan K. in his office on the phone…
NK: So just to confirm the details then Mr. Messi… to compensate for you losing three zeros off your annual salary, we will guarantee the following – unlimited free samples of the new “Leo Vintage” special edition Grange, unlimited free coffees at any Rundle Street café and unlimited free rides for the kids on the Popeye with Carl and Ross to baby sit when required…
LM: Ok, I accept.
(Door opens, and a head appears…)
PVDP: Nathan, I told you already! No imports!
NK: (holding a hand over the phone): But Mr Van Der Pol….
PVDP: No imports !!!
(head disappears, door slams shut)
NK: (sheepishly) Sorry Mr. Messi but…

Nathan Konstandopoulos has been training with the team so hopefully he gets a new contract.

Re: Who's signed for next season
Meanwhile Petratos signs for WSW, is there a salary cap anymore?
We sign C grade Aussies, WSW, City etc. sign 4-5 current and ex Socceroos, imports and experienced Aussies.
AU and CCM sign the leftovers (but even CCM signed Muller, so I'd say AU is bottom of the transfer ladder with zero exciting signings to date!)
