Signing.I'm not willing to write anyone off before seeing them play, but LB is a particularly weak point in the squad so we need this guy to come good.
Is it a trial or a signing ??

Take away his most recent club (2nd division USA) and his history isn't too bad.It is that guy.Could be this guy-
Michael Maria
https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/michael ... ler/308356
Played for Verbeek before, played LB and DM, contract ending in a couple of months and not playing much at his current club.
Has played more professional minutes under Verbeek than any other coach.

Looks very underwhelming on paper.
Eredivisie and Dutch 2nd tier in the last couple of years.
I'm keen to see what he can do, if he can put in a decent cross he would be an instant hit.

Re: Who's signed for next season
I think visa players verbeek will sign are likely to have a very specific quality in a particular position that may not necessarily translate into a player having extensive euro big league experience.
I think it may be quite similar to many of the players gombau picked seemingly fr obscurity yet their unique skill set complemented the squad perfectly.
Verbeek and gombau seem to be cut from a similar cloth imo in their approach to the game in general based on what ive read.

And that's a good thing I reckon.
Played for Twente last year who got promoted to Eredivise. We need left sided players, though I do have faith in Kitto I didn't have before last year's finals.
What has me excited is what we do to replace Goody.

Whilst Goody is a big loss, in reality winger is a position our youth stocks have always been high in developing and there are a few very good young kids who can play there. I feel Izzy is the harder position to replace. McGree is a great pickup, but he doesnt play the same role in midfield imo.

Wow!Maria signed for two seasons and we paid a transfer fee for him as well.
Verbeek must rate him highly!
A quick look at his highlights and he appears to be quite an attacking LB ( as expected in the dutch system)
So do we sign a winger and 10 or winger and striker from this point?
Its almost like AUFC is a real life club paying transfer fees and getting their men rather than scraps from the bargain bin.

Re: Who's signed for next season
I would sign Alberg, a visa winger preferably with an AFC passport (If that's not possible then I would try to sign Jerson Cabral or Younes Mokhtar who could be good signings) and try to sign Tomi Juric, even if it seems unrealistic.Maria signed for two seasons and we paid a transfer fee for him as well.

Re: Who's signed for next season
i think a 10 is most important. A good 10 can help blackwood take the next step, if he stays fit.
I just saw victory only have 11 squad members. is it opposite season

Re: Who's signed for next season
So verbeek gave him his debut at VFL Bochum and signed him last season at fc twente. It sounds like he is a valued player in verbeeks style so one would have to assume this is a very positive signing given Verbeek is getting exactly who he wants rather than trying to fit a square peg in a round hole.I’ve worked with Gertjan twice before, first at Bochum and then when I was at FC Twente, and I’ve wanted to be his player again.
“He’s taught me to be a positive, courageous, and attacking player that loves to have the ball and that’s how I enjoy the game the most. I’m very happy that he and the club wanted me to help improve the squad, so I can’t wait to get started.”
I agree with Zanzibar, I think blackwood can be our number 1 striker if he has the players around him.
This could be a huge year for him given his strengths perfectly fit into a dutch styled system and having a quality 10 and wingers around him. Can we rely on his fitness though?

Re: Who's signed for next season
Definitely need a striker.
Even if Blackwood steps up he is only one player
We've lost:
- Baba
- Stama
- Ilso (to a lesser extent)
- Jordy
Regardless of how good or how much the above played, we had those players on our list last season.
Striker should still be our number 1 priority.
