What the hell is going on with Baba Diawara? Second pre-season in a row that he'll just be rocking up out of nowhere several months late. Unless there's a valid reason, it's both unacceptable from him to show such little dedication and commitment towards preparing for the season ahead and embarrassing from the club's POV to allow it.
He is here in Adelaide, doing his own training
Although we have very little information, he has been spotted at some preseason games.
My guess is that he is getting his body right, strength, conditioning etc..
No need to rush him back just yet, it is a long preseason.
We are UNITED, after all....

I don't reckon we need another CB.

Elsey, Jacobsen and Regan are all solid plus we can rely on Isa or a youth player to fill the void of injuries.

I'm also confident our new owners will be much more open to signing injury replacements than ever before so that will also take the pressure off only having 3 recognised CBs.

Hasn't Galloway also played at CB ?
Welcome back !! :)
Thanks Shin, haven't really been away. I've just too busy to post anything worthwhile :(

So reports are honda has signed for $2.9 million.

Victory only contributed $1.3 million. Foxtel's funded the rest.

...
FTFY
This is Foxtel's money which they have provided to the league for high profile signings, nothing else.
I dont think that changes a thing ?

There was nothing stopping Adelaide from finding a $2.9m player and getting the $1.6m subsidy ..... except we don't have that kind of money. Potentially, if we found a $1m player we'd might manage to get a $500k subsidy ..... except we don't have that kind of money either.

Correct. We need to earn success as we can't affotf to buy it; a situation I am rather comfortable with.

This is a Foxtel strategy for a quick fix for their ratings.
Throw some money at some high profile signing, then wait for attendances, rating, sponsorship, subscribers to increase.

The FFA cant afford to be throwing money at anything atm.

I'm happy enough for Fox to pump money into the league. Higher ratings means more money next time the TV deal is negotiated, which means higher quality imports at all clubs, which means better football.

Yeah it's a tricky one. There's no doubt the whole league benefits from players with the reputation of Honda coming in, but if MV sweep all before them off the back of him having a stellar season then I agree with Shin, the league loses a bit of integrity and comes across as a bit of a circus.

Having said that, I'm certainly looking forward to seeing him play at Coopers when they come here, so it's a double edged sword really. It will only be a "win-win" if he brings a few extra through the gate and we beat them anyway :D

It is a nice sign of our growing understanding of Asia that genuine marquees can be sourced from the region. I think Shinji Ono provided bit of a wake-up for some, particularly those in Sydney.

Slow news week for aufc!

How to people feel about konsta possibly being a third choice mid now behind the visa players and Lia?

Last season kurz always played Lia over konsta and it appears he will continue to do so this season.

Lia and Konsta play in different positions. Unless Lia is suddenly a #10, our midfield would be Konsta/Ilso, Boland and Isa.

I wonder if this means he's more of a chance to gain a contract? I'd love to see more articles like this from the club allowing fans to get to know who the next McGree or Kitto coming thru the ranks might be.

I do wonder with the squad the way it is whether there will be any more signings made? I'm very happy with how the squad is shaping up and there generally seems to be lots of competition for most positions which is very healthy.

I have enjoyed the fact they have seemingly started to do more of these on the younger players, with the one last week on Brooks and before that on Stamatelopoulos.

I'd be surprised if we signed another scholarship though, from what I can tell we already have Stamatelopoulos and Konstandopoulos (not sure if 2nd year of 2 year deal is still scholarship?), Niyongabire, Richards and D'Arrigo this year. Maybe brook as well?

But I guess anything is possible.

We just signed Ben Halloran apparently.

Good signing, really completes the squad and gives us plenty of good cover across the board. Now just need to keep Baba fit and we look really strong.

Very decent pickup! A lot of competition on that RW now.
All I need is some tasty waves, a cool buzz, and I'm fine.
