Rather than any actual advantages to going to MV (once again money aside I think this is way overplayed), in his own mind coming back to AU would be an indisputable step back. At least going to a different club he probably thinks he's progressing (even though he really isn't).
Neither Melbourne club has a history of not paying their players. Maybe that's a concern for him.
Nope but Victory do have a history of treating out of favour players badly.
We treated some of our most favoured players badly to compare.
We have.

My point isn't that we're not bad, it's that they're not that brilliant either and on the football department side of things the gap isn't huge.

Administration wise it's a different story of course.
Yeah that's true but you can't have one without the other (unless the club changes obviously).
Sure for Mauk playing at AU would have the advantage of a cemented position. But there is the risk that he may have to deal with a number of issues the club seems to create for themselves.
At MV those issues don't appear to be as prevalent but he would have a battle on his hands to win his place (which may aid him in becoming a better footballer). Take someone like Carrusca, how hard does he really have to work to earn his position? Is the marquee player really going to consistently lose their position in the side when the only competition for him is Jordan O'Doherty who's probably on a similar contract to McGree and earning less than $40k a season.
Its a similar situation to players joining a club like Real Madrid. I think for a player at that level the desire to test yourself against the best is something many seek out.
But from the outside a lot of people are left wondering why they made the move.
That's why I think there is an advantage when it comes to NT selection to players joining the Melbourne or Sydney clubs has there is a far greater fight for players to earn their position consistently.

Any word on what's happening with McGree?

I 'd say there is a lot going on back and forth behind closed doors and we won't hear about anything until whatever happens, happens.

Yeah no thanks.

I am concerned that we have not yet signed ANYONE for the new season though.

I guess they are waiting for the coach to arrive but every day that passes is an opportunity lost.

If he brings 3 quality foreigners with him then it should make up for the clubs lack of off season work

Considering Burns has come back to Nix and NJ I think he's willing to be a big fish in a little pond. I really can't think of too many other Australian players that would be a better signing for AU.

Burns is kinda like Troisi in that he comes back to springboard back to a better deal overseas.

I guess he is approaching the end of his career and he's not in the frame for the Socceroos at the moment so playing time is crucial if he's to make next year's WC.

We may get him but I can't see us keeping him longer than a season.

Yeah I think that's fair enough too. If I could score a deal to play in Europe or Japan I'd sure as hell take it while I can! Just like with his time at Nix if he comes back and performs well an attractive offer may come.
Obviously he'll want to include that in his contract so the club can't hinder such a move too heavily. But it would be frustrating to see it turn into a Holland situation where he's barely even settled before he's off.

Interesting that he's coming back to Oz when he's without a contract. I think the fact he's coming says a lot.

I don't understand this "last dog at the bowl" mentality we've got in the transfer market. We wait for every other club to do business and secure their players before we pop our heads up and take the scraps.

You obviously haven't been paying attention to everything everyone is saying about the club all the time.
