Who's signed for next season

Re: Who's signed for next season
There's been plenty of players tear it up the state league yet look horrible at Aleague level for AU over the years, unless people have watched training it's hard to judge Veart and the club for letting a player go.

Re: Who's signed for next season
I don’t blame Veart for not giving him a chance. I don’t blame Costanzo for taking a better offer, but I think it will prove to be a mistake for his career.Costanzo has terminated his contract early to take up another opportunity.
Looks like his Jets trial must have been successful.
I can’t help but feel that it’s Veart’s fault a talented young player in Costanzo is leaving because he was seemingly giving preferential treatment to someone else (Dukuly) by giving him opportunity after opportunity despite him showing absolutely nothing.
Adelaide has a track record of bringing through good young players. Be patient. Wait your turn. Wait for your chance. And when you get it take it.

On the flip side though, Izzo, Goodwin, Garuccio, Kitto and probably a couple of others that I can't think of came through the AU youth setup and then had to go interstate to make a name for themselves in the A-league before coming back, or not coming back (Warland, Koutroumbis etc)I don’t blame Veart for not giving him a chance. That's why it's always a good idea for situations like this to be mutual and amicable.

Dukuly got chance after chance and didn’t take any of them but still kept getting opportunities.I don’t blame Veart for not giving him a chance. Because of that, I don’t begrudge Costanzo moving on at all and moving to the Jets (if his trial was successful) will be good for his career given it’s become clear that Carl has been playing favourites all season (Dukuly isn’t the only one who I think is getting preferential treatment tbh).

SA produces a lot of exciting talent however only has one A-League team, so a number of kids have to move on each year. Some like Tongyik & McGowan are now playing for the Socceroos. On the flip side though, Izzo, Goodwin, Garuccio, Kitto and probably a couple of others that I can't think of came through the AU youth setup and then had to go interstate to make a name for themselves in the A-league before coming back, or not coming back (Warland, Koutroumbis etc)

In all it's a healthy situation we have and a real credit to those involved in youth development throughout the state.

Re: Who's signed for next season
Announced todayWill be announced by the end of the week.We are supposedly close to keeping both Javi and Juande.
I’m happy to keep Javi as he genuinely looks a class above but I personally would have let go of Juande (who has done well) and instead used his wages to fund a #10.

Re: Who's signed for next season
So with the season done, focus now goes into assembling next season’s squad.
By my reckoning, the following players are out of contract:
Oschenham
Marrone
Elsey
Jakobsen
Abetew
Smith (Scholarship)
Konstandopoulos
Niyongabire
Dukuly (scholarship)
Yengi
Juric
Goodwin (on loan)
Who do you want to see stay and who would you let go?
Personally I would release Abetew. I wouldn’t mind keeping Oschenham on the condition that he’s loaned out while I would keep the rest with Smith being promoted to a senior contract. I would also offer Yull a scholarship deal.
Of the players we have contracted for next year, I would terminate Caletti’s contract and bring in a #10. If we can find a better left footed CB than Timotheou, then I would terminate George’s contract as well.

Re: Who's signed for next season
Oschenham - Keep. One of the other two will be lured away for sure. We have a glut of excellent keepers.
Marrone - He'll be released. Hopefully with more grace and gratitude than we have offered most of our loyal, long-serving stars. I'd keep him over Timotheou any day of the week.
Elsey - Will be looking for an overseas gig and some excitement. He's had a great season and we'd miss him so I'd want him re-signed if possible.
Jakobsen - Keen to go again and likes Adelaide. A no-brainer. Magnificent player and should be captain.
Abetew - Let him go if he can find another contract. They come back....
Smith (Scholarship) - Showed more than enough to re-sign.
Konstandopoulos - Meh.
Niyongabire - Definitely getting better each game. Re-sign.
Dukuly (scholarship) - Needs game time - but not with us. Might be an uncut gem but there's no room for him.
Yengi - Is probably two years off being (potentially) great. Keeper.
Juric - Depends on what money he's on. We've seen how good he can be and we've seen how bad. And how injury prone. I like Tomi but can we afford him? If we can....yes.
Goodwin (on loan) - Break the bank. Star!
Timotheou - Get him as far from the team as we can - as fast as we can.

Re: Who's signed for next season
^^ Concur with all of this - except the comment about Konstandopolous. I think he will really flower in the next season. He's been cruelled by injury, but as his best, he is highly creative and he runs at defenders - and we are not exactly overflowing for creative AMs at the moment.

Fair comment on Konstandopolous. I'd basically forgotten he was with us and can't remember enough to make a sensible assessment. So, I made a non-sensical one!

Disappointing if true.

Re: Who's signed for next season
It's a bummer for Kostandopoulos.Disappointing if true.
I feel he never really had the chance to show what he could offer due to the serious injuries he had.
Marrone's experience will be missed even though he hardly had any minutes this season. When he played he always gave 100%.
That's the A-league for you.
