No other rumour on halloran and no playful hints from the club .

Nothing is certain yet.
It is a Goal.com story after all.

Normally the club would have done something by now, a playful hint as you say. Old mate Val hasn't even mentioned it.

No journo has FWIW
Yeah the article itself doesn't fill me with confidence as besides the statement that he's joined no other facts around the move are mentioned and the entire article is a just a re-cap of his career.
But I'm willing to be hopeful as I feel he's a good signing.
Time to Djbate!

I am desperately hoping we have not and will not sign Ben Halloran. It would be a terrible move in a number of ways.

1. The squad has enough right wingers, Miluesnic, Kitto, Niyongabire and Kristin Konstadopoulos. This would make 5 right wingers in a limited squad and mean we have as many right wingers signed as we do have specialist defenders signed. A total joke.

2. Halloran is not very good, he might be slightly better than Miluesnic but not enough to warrant his signature.

3. It would confirm the complete abandonment of the clubs South Australian Identity. The club has worked at developing players, being a home to South Australian players. Doing this brought the club a Championship. Now the new overseas owners and foriegn coach are proving they do not care about SA, SA players or developing young players. I recommend to the young players at the club like Brook, Niyongabire, Konstandopoulos brothers and others, get out of the club before the overseas anti-SA owners ruin your career. It is now quite clear you will never get a real chance, instead you will be overlooked in favour of mediocre non SA players like Halloran and Lia.

I want Adelaide United to be a South Australian club, the same club that won the championship, not this anti-SA crap.

Hey all,

Been ages since I posted on here but I still have a read every now and then...I really should post more. Happy to confirm I have resigned as a member to AUFC for a 5th straight year and I have to say I'm loving our squad so far. Very good depth for a change.

Just on Ben Halloren, my son plays with his second cousin and I spoke to his dad this morning and can confirm he has been told the rumour is true. In his words "Thats good becuase now we get free tickets". Ben actually has alot of family in Adelaide so makes sense. So unless I have been told lies from a direct family member which I doubt...Looks like it is true.

What a massive hissy fit.

Halloran is a former Socceroo, hardly a mediocre player. Kitto can and does play on the left, and 2 of the others you mentioned are kids beginning their senior careers.

The abandonment of our identity ?? What an absolute joke that is, this is a WORLD game not a national one. We get the best players we can, wherever they are from. In saying that we have signed a lot of local talent this year and brought Goodwin back home.

The Adelaide United that won the title was captained by a Victorian, 2 of the GF scorers were Spanish as was the coach, its leading scorer was a Sydney kid born in Washington, and its creative force was from Argentina.

Halloran is a FORMER Socceroo because he was not good enough for the Socceroos, never has been and almost certainly never will be. He was given his chance as young player but he no longer is a young player.

He largely struggled for time in Germany, could not put a decent number of starts together and a lot of his appearances were short periods as a substitute and was not good enough to get much game time in Japan most recently.

He failed in Germany, failed in Japan, failed with the Socceroos and is a mediocre signing. He is good enough for the A-league but will not be a star, far better to go with the players we already have.

Also Goodwin failed in Europe, but I think he is a much better player than Halloran, is a South Australian and has strong ties to the club.

We need depth, so if he pushes Mileusnic out, which he will, then that makes us a stronger squad overall. Niko can also play as a 10

I wouldn't say he struggled in Germany either.

Goody was one of Spartas best for most of last season.

Just because people leave Europe it doesn't mean they failed.

Failed in Germany eh ? So it took them 5 years to work out he was crap ? Not usually noted for being slow on the up take are the Germans.
And where is AU's coach from ? Germany isn't it ? And how has his recruiting from that part of the world been so far ? Pretty good I'd say. Which would suggest he has a reasonable network of contacts over there, wouldn't you say ?

So unless you're a FC Heidenheim season ticket holder I reckon I'll go with Marco's call on this one

I am sorry but that is totally wrong. Goodwin played in only 4 of Sparta's 16 league games in 2018, the second half of the season. One of them was a 1 minute substitute appearance, another was a 4 minute substitute appearance. The other two were starts a 64' performance on the LW and a full game at LB. Although he played a lot and started a lot in the first half of the season he clearly failed to play well enough to keep his spot and was dropped to the bench for the rest of the season. He failed to make the grade in a team that was relegated from the Eredivise. It was the same pattern as his first season over there as well.

Look at how much he played, he clearly failed to play well enough to regularly start.

Adlung was clearly a success, Matmour not so much, we will have to wait and see on Ilso and Boland, we just don't know about them yet.

Listen Kristijan, i don't know which of the players you're related to, but all they have to do is just work hard and fight for their place in the team. If Halloran is so bad they'll easily beat him to a spot in the team. If on the other hand he turns out to be another excellent signing then your friend/cousin/brother will have their work cut out for them.

I am not related to any player in the Adelaide United squad.

I am giving my opinion as a member of Adelaide united who is unhappy with where the new owners are taking the club. They are not South Australian, they are turning Adelaide United into just another team not a South Australian club, there will be no South Australian feel to the team at all.

Halloran is slightly a better player than Miluesnic and Kitto, and, a worse player than Goodwin.

Please refrain from making up untrue things about me.

I don't understand what these players are supposed to do?

Play for 2 or 3 senior seasons in the HAL and finally stand out, get that dream European contract, get there and work your guts out but unfortunately can't break into the first team. After a few seasons of playing bit parts or being loaned out to other euro clubs then you make the decision to make the move back to the HAL to get some regular play time.

Unfortunately no one wants you because they have got a couple of 16 year olds who might step up or a couple of late 20s Australians who will never be better than HAL level that are available for cheap, even though you have space in the cap and space in the squad.

So you retire at 26?

----

In my opinion, a HAL squad should be made up of- experienced Australians (including players returning from OS and HAL experiences players), experienced visa players in key areas and at least 1 young australian/youth player for every position either as back up or as a starting/bench player.

If a young player takes his opportunities, steps up and proves he is better than an experienced player (like Konsta seemed to do with Lia last year, Strain started over Marrone a couple of times too), then he gets the spot and the team is better for it. In the end the club has to be competitive within the rules of the league.

I go away for a while, come back on here and Adelaide aren't a South Australian team anymore?

Izzo, Elsey, Marrone, Goodwin, Kitto, Mileusnic, Konsta x 2, AP, Pacifique, Brook, all from NZ now?

Yawn, wake me up when the season starts.
