Re: Who's signed for next season
What an off season, losing our 2 best players to Qatar and Saudi clubs obviously sucks but Gertjan is saying and doing all the right things for me at the moment.
Compare that to last season when we signed players like Ilso and Kurz would say he had no involvement in recruiting and things like that. Now we have a coach who has the support of the board and can make personnel decisions based on skill and fitness instead of affordability.

Do we wonder whether Kurz did have a say on recruits, and just passed the buck when they underperformed ??

Re: Who's signed for next season
Cant see kurz wanting to sign ilso unless he absolutely had to sign a cheap visa .Im sure he would have known plenty of bundesliga 2 optionsDo we wonder whether Kurz did have a say on recruits, and just passed the buck when they underperformed ??
Cant see jordy being kurzs choice for striker or that he even knew who he was, nor can i see it being his choice we neglected to sign a centre back while letting regan go.
I think the common sense option is to assume the club was in standby/ survival mode until they could have a manager whos style aligns with theirs. It was the best option over the longterm to hold back until kurz left.
Love or hate kurz, its clear he did a stellar job with his hands tied.

Re: Who's signed for next season
Its hard to imagine a manager having no say in who his players are.
I get they didn't want him, but still.

Also agree.

Re: Who's signed for next season
I cant believe what I am reading. This sounds like progress and far more professionalism. He didn't perform and wasn't fit. Verbeek wasn't impressed with him at all.I wonder if he did not perform during his trial or was it a change of direction from the club due to goodwins departure?Alberg’s gone.
Either way the very fact that the club trialed an international 10 and did not sign him speaks volumes ( to me ) that this club has reached a higher level of professionalism while having also paid 2 transfer fees.
Im excited to see the final product tbh
"“Being a foreign player, there has to be no doubts about him being a starter and that’s not what we saw,” Verbeek said on Friday.
“He hadn’t played for half-a-year and he trained by himself, but he did too little and he was not fit.
“When you come here, you have to show what you can do.
“But he missed some trainings because it was too heavy for him.
“It was not smart of him to come here and not be fit enough to show what his possibilities are.”

I agree. This club seems to be run so much better and I can't wait for the season to start.

And in some ways I'm glad we aren't rushing into things, as nice as player signings are.
We have a few spots so it's best we take the time to find the right ones.

Plenty of time still and they aren't just filling the spots with unfit players and scraps.
No striker for the next competitive game but we don't know any different anyway haha.
Gertjan said after the internal friendly yesterday that we are hoping to hear something by the end of the week regarding a new striker. I doubt we'll hear anything publicly this week but the club obviously has plans in motion.

Re: Who's signed for next season
Semi-serious question, could Bruce be nominated as part of the FFA Cup squad even if he's not a contracted A-League player?
All I need is some tasty waves, a cool buzz, and I'm fine.

A Melbourne-supporting friend told me that Berisha could be returning to Australia, but listed Newcastle or Sydney as his potential clubs.
