Re: Who's signed for next season
One of the biggest complaints from A league teams is the high turnovers every year and needing to do almost a full re-build. Well.... no need to worry this season. The squad knows each other and how they play.
Re: Who's signed for next season
Has anyone got any mail on Harry Van Der Saag?
Injured the meniscus(?) in his knee in November 2022 (10 months ago) and was an outside chance to return for finals in April 2023 but didn't. Not seen him mentioned or pictured at training since.
He was very impressive at RB when he was playing and would be essentially a new signing.

Ryan Tunnicliffe apparently the new midfielder, last played for Portsmouth.

They did say somewhere along the line that he had a setback in his recovery. Was a while ago though.Has anyone got any mail on Harry Van Der Saag?

In regards to Ryan Tunnicliffe, it says former footballer in the google suggested searches and that made me chuckle.

Re: Who's signed for next season
Considering they said two “quality” signings, this does seem pretty underwhelming if I’m honest.
Did we bring him out of retirement @bp?

Re: Who's signed for next season
Tunnicliffe has 250+ games of Championship experience and has played 60 league games over the last two years with Portsmouth. I think it’s fair to say he’s an upgrade on D’Arrigo.
He’s 30 too so he’s at a good age. I’m happy with the signing.

On paper it sounds like the midfielder we need. But of an old fashioned bruiser by all reports.
Hoping he can be that key man to give us a presence in midfield and screen the back four.
Welcome Ryan!

Also seems like a technically good number 8 too. This is a really good article on him: https://link.medium.com/pnQdE8QNQxbOn paper it sounds like the midfielder we need. But of an old fashioned bruiser by all reports.

Re: Who's signed for next season
Players with bigger cvs have failed, so what counts is what he does on the field. He does bring experience and is a good age, so fingers crossed.
Hopefully a lot better than Clough.. a bit sad our links to Spain for players appears to be dead these days. Would love to see some sth American/ continental flair at AU again!

Who were you expecting us to sign then?Terrible signing, we already have one useless English visa player now we have a second
It's been established over a number of years we have no money and can't compete with other clubs so have to wait until transfer windows are closed to pick up free agents.

Signing a 30 year old with 250+ Championship appearances is a very solid signing for any AL side.Who were you expecting us to sign then?Terrible signing, we already have one useless English visa player now we have a second

He has spent the last two years at promotion chasing League One side Portsmouth and he played regularly there as well.
He seems to be a very good fit.

Re: Who's signed for next season
What have we been asking for?
Midfield - tick
Experienced - tick
Defensive minded rather than creative - tick
I think this is probably as good as it gets, as we’re obviously not spending any money.
(Crosses fingers that we’re about to sign a top class 26 year old experienced striker. )

i wouldve gladly taken a player from the spanish second division, we've always had a great track record at finding quality there at cheap prices.Who were you expecting us to sign then?Terrible signing, we already have one useless English visa player now we have a second

lower league uk players are average at best, we all saw what happened to melbourne victory and brisbane roar when they had 3-4 uk players in their squads/coaching - both teams failed miserably.
clough offers very little for the wage hes on and spends more time on the treatment table then actually playing - he is absolutely stealing a living.
now we have tunicliffe who will be very similar, and his signing also will stagnate the development of yull & alagich centrally.

Re: Who's signed for next season
Well......rather than deciding that he's complete shit or the answer to all our problems, I might just wait and watch him play.
Because he's signed now, and when he wears the RED, he's one of us. There's no question he's a seasoned pro at a level above most of our boys, but will he cut it? Who knows?
But then, I think Clough is a very competent player, so what would I know?
