It might be my piss poor memory, but I can't actually remember this guy playing for us last season.
Was he any good ? He'd wanna be for a 3 year deal.
i have a vague recollection of him getting a few minutes against the mariners and one of the melbourne teams (possibly victory?) towards the tail end of the season.

i know he scored a banger for the NPL side earlier this year, but he looks more like an NPL level player than an A league one.

Adelaide United is delighted to announce midfielder, Luke Duzel, has penned a three-year contract with the Club.

It might be my piss poor memory, but I can't actually remember this guy playing for us last season.

Only 21 and would have been cheap. Plenty of upside and consistent with our youth / SA policy.

His wiki page says he was born in Melbourne and started with the Knights.

So "youth" policy maybe, "SA" not so much.

Hmm not sure where I got that from then! Still can't imagine he would have cost much more than minimum wage and surely at that age has some potential the club has seen.

Definitely need a quality midfielder but squaddies like this are still important.

In the meantime while the club makes strange signings like this one, SFC sign the one we absolutely should not have let slip in amantiadis. Bravo reds

he's essentially left for money. (as its not a scholarship contract)

theres absolutely no way he gets a great deal of game time at sydney, that club has always handled talented youth poorly (even recently, look at how they have failed to integrate segecic properly into to that team)

by all reports he's quite arrogant for his age - so he should fit right in at his new pay masters.

however like i said earlier, sydney has never been known for playing young players; infact they're more known for how many move to other clubs due to not getting minutes.

its one thing looking like a superstar against players your own age and half decent against NPL level players - its another doing it against actual professional players

i dont think this is that big a loss, its not as though adelaide is crying out for young attacking players either (theres plenty of talent in the NTC side and even the utd reserves)

Agree. Would be surprised if he gets game time at SFC.

We can't keep every young player unfortunately.

We have only let go of 3 players and 2 of those were surplus to requirements and ready-made replacements are already at the club. Of course we aren’t signing any players.

Ideally we should’ve released Cavallo and probably Duzel to free up a couple of squad spots but we didn’t.

At least there will be no "waiting for the new players to gel with the rest of the squad and/or acclimatise to Australian conditions".

No excuse for not hitting the ground running this season.

I think the lack of players coming in is a little bit disappointing considering we got the big memo that Piet is out and we are Owners 2.0 and we want to invest substantially in the club blah blah blah.

Still waiting for something amazing.

To be fair, if the coach is happy with his squad (and whether he should be or not is a completely different debate), then the owners are hardly going to say "but wait, we want to spend our cash unnecessarily on players you don't think you need".
