Castro is apparently a done deal. There’s our 10 we’ve been crying out for.
That's now 4 35+yo Spaniards haha.

Tbh Castro still probably has some decent ability but wow.

A 39 year old winger who Perth decided to let go because they signed Daniel Sturridge ...
Fair enough, we live in difficult times.

EdDog has something though ... :D

Val M has tweeted that the striker that we are targeting/come to an agreement with, is Hiroshi Ubusuki, a 30 year old Japanese striker who plays in J-League 1 with Shimuzu S-Pulse. He is 195cm tall!! He has played in Spain with clubs like Sevilla, Valencia, Girona and others. He will be free on February 1 2022.

Ibusuki, that's a name I haven't heard in years. It appears Shimizu have been bringing him off the bench, so it will be interesting to see if he's good for full '90.

At least AU didn't go for Kazu Miura who is 54 years of age. Would you believe he is still playing? He has just signed for a Japanese fourth division club. Lol.

On a different note, Castro would be a good signing. However, Shinji Kagawa, the 32 year old ex-Dortmund and Manchester United player, is now available after mutually terminating his contract with PAOK Salonika in Greece. His playmaking skills/creativity would be just what United need. He can also help our new Japanese striker to settle into a English speaking country. We could get a few more years of service from him than Castro. Both players are excellent however.

Wiki mustn't be up to date as it has him at 0 games for Shimizu.

Perhaps we can't rely on it given the above but he has only scored at an average of 1 goal every 6 games since 2014...

George Backwood from Asia it would seem.

Reading a few posts on Twitter from journos who apparently have seen him play are pretty damning. One guy commented that he's rubbish and not many people consider him to be any good.

I wouldn't expect any other assessment from an AU signing though hahah.

The pundits also said, before Isaias arrived here, that he was a washed up has been from the Segunda Liga who had the first touch of a trampoline and that he should have been playing in the (Spanish) fourths .... so sometimes the experts are not quite as expert as they claim.

Brook - excellent signing
Castro - known quantity, could be decent
Asian striker - who knows

I give this a pass mark overall.

Good to see movement in the market by the club in January!

I agree with you EdDog. Don't forget that we have also signed two excellent local NPL players in Asad Kasumovic and Lachlan Barr from Adelaide City. I reserve judgement on the Japanese striker, but he must have something if he can play in the J-League and in Spain. I realize that he has only played 1 La Liga game and that he mostly played in the Segunda. However most of our Spanish imports have mostly played there as well. Look how well that they have served us in the A-League. :D

Don't mind a few quality 35 year olds floating around directing all the 22 year olds as long as that doesn't create a divide. AU is desperate for more dead ball quality as they can't just rely on Goody completely. I would naturally have preferred a younger player but there is no doubting Castro's quality as its not like hes a fading star. He was excellent for Perth till his last game.
Great to hear Brook is coming back. I think we only just started to see a good level of quality and consistency from him then he left. Hopefully he's better for his time abroad.

As for Ubusuki, I'll believe it when it happens, not the first or last time we've been linked with player like this, most of the time if falls thru. If Val's reporting it, historically that makes it less likely.
Time to Djbate!
