Some free agent strikers we could look at. I’d love it if we were to somehow sign Emenike.

Edit: Just realised Malick Mané was on that list who I completely forgot existed.
I'm just imagining Bruce Djite sitting at his desk doing exactly what I just did. Click that link, sort by price ascending and start working down the list haha
Nathan Burns and Corey Gamiero on that list. I'd be very happy to see the club give those to a shot.

Seen on FB that the club is close to signing 17 year old winger Yaya Dukuly from Melb City. He's represented the Joeys.
Bruce Djite confirmed in his Q&A that Nathan Burns has retired. Corey Gameiro is now playing in the NSW NPL (second div of the NSW NPL to be specific), which is a shame.

By the way, that URL links you to players who have been out of contract since 2019, so players who haven't played for at least 12-24 months. Here's a link for players who have only recently become free agents.

His knee was a mess over and over and I'd imagine his head too after all that.
It's great he's playing at all, I hope it's going well for him.
Indeed.

In other news, George Timotheou is training with us. Would be a decent pick up, although I am concerned about that heart condition he was treated for at Schalke.

Now that would be a handy pick-up indeed.

I assume COVID brought him home given the state of the pandemic in Belgium.

Timotheou would be a good pick up imo.

Also we are apparently signing former Young Socceroos keeper James Delianov who has played just one AL game.

I’d imagine he’d be the first choice keeper if he comes.

Hearing some good things about him but I don't see why we need to sign another young, inexperienced goalkeeper when we've already got Ochsenham, Cox and Gauci.

I agree.

Having said that Eugene was teammates with him at City so he would know what he’s capable of.

Former Socceroo James Troisi could be on his way out of Adelaide United before his second season at Coopers Stadium kicks in.
https://theworldgame.sbs.com.au/troisi- ... nited-exit

Hardly a bombshell he's leaving.
I do understand the financial benefits of moving clubs as well as the attraction of living in a new country. But I can never help but wonder with Troisi what his career would look like if he stayed put somewhere without seemingly looking to leave the club he's at, at the end of most seasons.

I tend to feel the same, especially as he has the talent.

Given the structure of his salary, as reported in the article, it might be a situation that suits all parties. We have plenty of depth in the middle of the park as is, though his experience will be missed.

Pretty comprehensive way of highlighting who is still on the books!

Timotheou would appear a good signing given his experience abroad, believe he had already trialled with WSW.

Financially losing Troisi now would be good but we lack experience and I was looking forward to the occasional "Adelaide Juventus" midfield of D'Arrigo, Caletti and Troisi.

First game is what, 6-7 weeks away, when are the fixtures out?

6-7 weeks I'd expect!

Does anyone know the story why Timotheou isn't playing in Europe still? He played a Bundesliga game just over 12 months ago?

He signed for Zulte Waregem and only made the one appearance. He was to join Western United on loan in January but I think he failed the medical because they found he had a heart condition. He’s got it fixed now and can play again.

Interesting that Abetew isn’t included and hasn’t signed a contract (at least it hasn’t been publicly announced) but has been training, has a squad number (#34) and played in the friendly on Wednesday.

He can’t be an NYL player next year or be on a scholarship contract because he’s too old.

Ah thanks. It looked like some sort of injury or health concern.

Margush has been released by Perth.

I wonder if he’s coming back to us, can’t think of any other clubs that need a keeper.

Maybe Delianov will go to Perth to replace him?

Return to “Adelaide United F.C.”
