Fox just did a segment on gulum.

He mentioned more than one aussie club were after him but he chose adelaide due to kurz and ante.

He also mentioned he always wanted play in the aleague to raise his kids here.

If family is his priority we may well hang onto him going forward as it seems he is in australia for good.

I can see him going to Victory when they eventually change their coach.

Yeah may as well offer him a million dollar contract. Why not? :D

Clock is ticking and the top 4 has all but slipped away due to our incompetence.

Either Ante is right and it really is impossible to get quality players to Adelaide (which is partially true) or we are just lazy.

He said ge wants to stay in australia .

He wont get that, we are only competing with other aleague clubs so his price will be realistic.

We at least have a chance in retaining him

AU got out bid on Burns by Wellington.
Unless he's fallen head over heels in love with the club and the city, meaning earning money is no longer something that interests him then AU have a chance. Obviously I'm not expecting HAL clubs to match what he's earning in China but Sydney are apparently playing Bobo over $1m per season. Cahill was on $3m with City apparently. He doesn't have the name to lure in third party sponsorship IMO so a club would have to front up the majority on the money which AU obviously doesn't have.

I'd obviously love him to stay and I hope the club make the best offer they can. But realistically I'd rather see the club focus on keeping Elsey than throwing what limited funds they have at Gulum placing someone like Elsey's future at the club into any sort of risk.

Most of his family are in Melbourne. Once an offer pops up over there that is suitable, it will immediately erase our chances.

I don't buy that excuse from Ante. It might be harder for us compared to the east coast but Petrillo did just fine getting players here. Petrillo did better than Ante even when he was balancing two full time positions at the club.

Stuckey he had multiple offers from aleague clubs, we won that battle. Credit where it due.

I wont be shocked if he returns to melbourne but he gave the oppinion he is really happy here so you never know

Michael did play a key role in assembling a title winning squad before he left. Although he did it mainly with locals and HAL rejects. He wasn't signing players of high calibre either.

I dont blame the players for the 0-5 thrashing (even though we had the two best chances of the game) , I dont even blame the coach.

I blame Ante Kovacevic for failing to sign ANYONE since Matmour left.

Vidosic-Burns-McGree all missed the boat.

I don't think Ante has anything to do with it.

Funds come from the owners. He can't buy players without their approval.

Blame the owners.

Has anyone asked the club to explain why we have failed to sign any player to replace matmour? Or what exactly is going on with Absalonsen and his injuries.
The transfer window is coming to a close and we still have a makeshift front third.

I don't think AU ever said they got outbid, they said they couldn't afford him. With limited cap space and two marquee players it may just be atm AUFC don't have much money to offer anyone.

No but the salary cap gets paid as a 'dividend' and then the owners choose how to spend it. There is a requirement to spend 85% of the dividend but the owners have control of releasing the funds. Guarantee the buck stops with the owners.
