Next season's coach search begins

Postby Stuckey Wed Jan 30, 2013 1:40 am

AS Brisbane Roar dismissed any move for John Kosmina, Adelaide United revealed it would second outside football identities to complete a global search for a new head coach.

Still reeling from John Kosmina's surprise resignation on Monday and messy departure of predecessor Rini Coolen, the Reds will call on seasoned football professionals to find the right coaching candidate.

"There will be a process with a panel charged with sourcing the best talent and distancing some people at the club who are probably a bit close," said club chief executive Glenn Elliott, with many within United's structure drawn from AFL backgrounds.

What do you make of that last paragraph? Who is too close? Is that refering to the fact people with an AFL background are involved with Football operations?

That whole thing is a bit ambiguous.
Coupled with the short Valkanis video interview I get mixed messages.
The written article states that the club will use outside expertise to help it find a new coach, "sourcing the best talent..." while the video clip finishes with the reporter claiming Valkanis is favorite for the job and a two year contract to boot.

Strange days.

It means all their reporting comes from internet forums and rewording the same 1 or 2 interviews into enough articles to fill the time between games.

Obviously some people in the club cannot make an unbiased decision re the new coach. Hence them going outside to independent sources.

Won't this just have the same result as the last two coaches? Outsider coach, disgruntled internal staff wanting the job, same old politics resulting in the same old "lack of trust".

It reeks of disunity at all levels down there.

But Petrillo was just given new powers to form the club's direction.
I just hope his talent for spotting coaches is as good as his talent for spotting South American midfielders!

I wonder about Ante Milicic he was close to getting the Heart gig at the start of the season. I'm sure he's learnt a tad more now under Popo.
I fairly sure he has gotten his coaching badges as well.

Anyone else think Bleiberg might be a good option? He talks a lot of sense to me, likes to play good football and seems to have the right amount of "crazy" for this club.

I like Miron, but want Stubbins and Mullen and Veart back.
