Adelaide United Fans Update | A Letter & Request To The Club

Adelaide United Fans Update | A Letter and Request To The Club

A few weeks ago, 10-12 various Adelaide United supporters, (representing active and non-active support) from different ages, cultures and fan-types held a meeting with each other to discuss the ongoing issues with active support, stadium management, stadium security, fan engagement and the overall direction in which the Club is headed.

The meeting, totalling just over 3 hours, was most certainly productive and the beginning of a fan-initiated directive to open the doors to improved publicised fan communication with the Club.

As the club have not yet responded to the protests, the following letter has been handed to the Club, in person, today.

We have requested a fans forum, which we believe is long overdue, and hopefully this will allow everyone a chance to have their say regardless of any 'membership status'.

We endeavour to keep you updated regarding the response from the Club and look forward to working with every Adelaide United supporter to assist with building increased community connection, club growth and an improved supporter and match-day experience.

The letter is attached for your viewing.

Thank you for your continued dedication to Adelaide United and, most importantly, each other.

fantastic !

Looks like all the right names are at the bottom of the letter which shows all demographics of the fan base are singing the same tune.

Will this letter make its way onto social media and be sent to any media organisations who have been following the story?

I think it would help put pressure on the club if it was made blatantly obvious that all sections of hindmarsh are calling for this and no doubt media outlets would love to jump on this before the story gets stale.

Great work as always guys.

It's all over Facebook, and has been sent to 442, and soon to other media outlets as well.

Looks great. Props to all involved.

Sadly I suspect one of these responses:

"We would like to thank [insert names here] for writing to us at Adelaide United.

Whilst we would love to implement many of the ideas you mentioned in your letter, we do not currently have the necessary resources to do so. It may be something worth considering at a future date.

Adelaide united will be making no further comment on the issue"

I would be surprised at all. I hope the people involved have a plan in place when this surely happens.

One thing that is impressive about this letter though. Both active supporter groups are involved. I think if these guys continue with a united front (regardless of their differences) they will get listened to a whole lot more.
Great work guys!

Well done and well written to all those involved.

I reckon you'll get a response at 5.45pm on Monday 11th February, so it can be stated truthfully at the Members Evening that the letter has been responded to...but of course, no one would have had time to read the response, let alone decide on a reaction to it..... ;)

442 have an article

ADELAIDE United have been urged to hold a fans forum as the first step towards thawing frosty relations with disaffected supporters.

Following on from their silent protest earlier this month, fans groups have written to the Reds management seeking a range of measures.

Among them a negotiated Supporters Charter agreed to by the fans, the club, stadium management and South Australian Police prior to the start of the 2013/14 campaign.

Despite the extraordinary success of the A-League this season and Adelaide’s strong position on the league table, AUFC fans say they have “never felt more disconnected and disillusioned with the club”.

It is yet another potential flashpoint for the club which was rocked by the sudden resignation of coach John Kosmina on Monday. Only last week Adelaide United settled a damaging lawsuit with Kosmina’s predecessor, Rini Coolen.

Reds fans have been scathing of what they see as apparent indifference from the club’s leadership in the face of heavy-handed stadium security.

They have increasingly expressed dismay at the level of fan engagement and the overall direction of the club.

During the Reds round 16 home clash against Perth Glory supporters staged a silent protest giving the club owners a taste of life without active support.

For periods of the game the stadium was eerily bereft of the usual fanatical support, signifying that no one from the club was listening to fans.

The protest failed to elicit any response from the club, and active and non-active support reps met recently to discuss their next step.

The letter signed by the various groups and forwarded to the club on Friday also called for the promotion of active support via avenues such as Facebook.

A post on the We Are The Reds website described a public fans forum as “long overdue”.

“Football without fans is nothing – it is uniquely the only sport with truly thrilling, hair-raising and electrifying atmosphere,” the letter stated.

“It is the underlying passion of these albeit dissatisfied fans that drives the growth of the game in our city and state, and helps make Hindmarsh a fortress for Adelaide United.”

The letter was signed by representatives for the Red Army, Red Terrace, Adelaide United Members Club, We are the Reds and the South End.
