Rodrigo Vargas
Is currently fielding an offer from AUFC and GCU if my sources are correct (they always are).
The defense needs strengthening, yet he has been nothing short of woeful this season and has lost that all-important half yard of pace.
Experience isn't something we should be looking for, Boo hardly lacks it and Jonny might return from injury looking better than he has.

Its a pity we don't hear from you more often with sources as good as yours.
Interesting if true. Personally I've never been a huge fan. The only time he seemed to play well was when he had Muscat by his side. But we could certainly be looking at worse players in the league.
Once fit and firing I think our defence will be solid It our wings we need to focus on.
Time to Djbate!

Re: Rodrigo Vargas
Would much rather get hold of Thwaite, GCU can sign up Vargas.

Re: Rodrigo Vargas
I think we're all pretty unhappy about this tbh.
But it wouldn't be the first time my source has been the bearer of bad news (Marcos to China, Dodd's offer from Perth, Pantellis to welly - although that wasn't too bad.) and I'd hoped he was wrong.
Anyways, Lev was told last week that he is free to go in this transfer window, providing his contract is only until April - and he's unlikely to be named in the CL squad - it's hardly a shock.
This opens up the possibility that Vargas' move would be short-term with the offer of an extention if he performs. We have defensive slots to fill before the ACL, and I would take Kossie's "we're not doing business" with a bucket of salt with this in mind.
GC's offer is unusual however, they're apparently not dealing with contracts until the season's end. But Vargas and Thwaite have worked together in the past and he could be seen as a short-term gap filler.

Re: Rodrigo Vargas
The Ogmonster has said he's going to stay in Asia as long as he can (36?, 37?, avoiding the vigorous training sessions of professional football until his mid-20s will surely offer him another couple of years at a good level). Realistically when he does return I'd imagine his Heart would be set in Melbourne. Apologies for the awful pun... Nope, that's a lie.
But I've always been under the belief that a Fyfe-Og pairing would be disastrous. They're two very similar players - both traditional centrebacks. In terms of modern football that type of player is best teamed with somebody who is more mobile and nimble, a tradition centre-half who can happily carry the ball forward and is comfortable playing a highline.
Hence why we're struggling so much this year. Along with school boy errors, we've been using two centre-halves since McKain has been injured (and his form wasn't shit-hot in the first place.). Both Dan and Boo are pushing to far up the pitch where they seem to be comfortable and once we lose pressure on the ball in the midfield they're caught out of position.
We need a big traditional centreback who can sit slightly deeper than the other three men in the defense.
